Read moreWe just attended the third performance of the world premiere of “Heart” at the LJP. The 24 hours in the death and life that accompanies the tragic loss of a beloved 19 year old San Diego surfer son who suffers fatal injuries in a car crash coming home after catching some waves at Tourmaline Beach one morning. Followed by the new chance for life his death brings to a 50 year old mom who’s life is almost lost after waiting 3 years for a heart transplant donor. No dry eyes for this theater goer when the boy’s estranged parents struggle with the loss of their son and the decision to donate his organs and when the moment arrives for the heart transplant and the donor boy and the donee mom meet and interact with one another. Thought provoking and very realistic. As usual for the La Jolla Playhouse this musical is very well produced and technically flawless. Choreographed by the same woman who choreographed the Eras Tour. Very well paced and acted - the 80 minute performance with no intermission flew by. We saw the the third performance of this original world premiere which was so well written and well rehearsed it could have been the 300th performance! Two 👍👍thumbs up … way up!! A perfect date night with my perfect...
Read moreCame for The Outsiders with my wife as returning patrons. The theater has single-level theatee seating, which we sat towards the back next to the aisle; there are no center aisles. The seats were very comfortable with a lot of leg room. Didn't have to stand and be awkward to let people pass through. The bathroom was clean, and had a average number of toilets. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Parking is off-site, but a shuttle is provided between the theater and the parking garage before and after the show. We would come back for more shows.
October 2023 update - Came for Sumo show in the Weiss Forum Theater. It's a small theater with one entrance into the theater that is up a ramp. The seats are a little narrow and have some cushion; barely comfortable. Aisle rows are a little narrow as well; had to stand to allow people to get to their seat down the row. A bar was setup on site with alcohol, non-alcoholic and snacks. Staff is friendly and welcoming as always. I'll continue...
