Good for take out. Bad for dine in. Pricey but very good food. I was staying at the hotel next door and thought I would eschew the high price of room service and order Pho La Jolla instead. I ordered 6 egg rolls. Thats it. There were no prices on the menu. When I arrived and the price was over 16$. I gafawed. The nice man said they had to raise prices since "everything" (I assume covid). While I waited, I noted that there were four other tables seated and actively eating when they started putting chairs on the tables tops essentially booting out the customers a half hour before close. I also couldnt help but notice that Usher Yeah! was playing overhead. Nothing gets me in the mood for Vietnamese food like derogatory hip hop music. The food? Well, quite a surprise in a good way. The portions were generous and the egg rolls were homemade. They came with a bag of lettuce and mint to eat in true Vietnamese style. Points for that. All in all, I'd say get carry out if you can. Maybe if they weren't kicking people out of the restaurant, they would not have to raise prices because of everything?

Pho La Jolla is a great spot for a quick and satisfying meal. I placed a takeout order, and they prepared everything impressively fast—just about 10 minutes. The Special Combo Pho came loaded with tender beef in various cuts, some tripe, and a generous portion of noodles. Another dish, the Egg Roll and Grilled Noodles Salad, was also generously portioned, with extra noodles on the side. While waiting for my order, I noticed the dining area had TVs showing sports games, which added a fun vibe. I later dined in and tried the Pho La Jolla Noodle Salad—a unique mix of pho noodles, fresh veggies, grilled chicken, and shrimp. It was a protein-packed, flavorful dish. The staff was friendly, though their English communication could be improved. One downside is that the facility is quite old; the restrooms are on the second floor, requiring a key, which may not be ADA-friendly. Despite that, the food quality and service make it worth a visit!

We were on a lunch break from a conference and ventured here. I wanted to love it as we have many Vietnamese places in Hawaii. Sadly I was disappointed. Service was slow and there was no ac. Eating phõ in a hot restaurant is horrible. My tofu bahn mi was good though I only wanted the sandwich and not meal which seemed to be an option according to the menu. I was already ordering phõ so would not need another soup nor rolls. The server did not seem to understand and brought me a meal and charged me for it. The phõ was plentiful. However, due to the uncomfortable atmosphere, I could not enjoy my food. The sandwich was more than enough therefore I could not indulge in the phõ so that was a total waste. The bbq pork was like char siu and a huge disappointment that my brother just left it. The workers seemed friendly, just slow to arrive with food or replenishing drinks.

Unfriendliness and poor customer service has ALWAYS been present at this restaurant, but tonight it plain old went too far. As a representative of the customer delivery drivers deserve the same amount of respect and smile as customers. We trust them to have the correct food items packaged in the customers order without question, that same level of trust should be applied to drivers. Trust is a 2 way street. There is no room for them thinking they are superior or in charge of us. The older man owner/manager is rude to food delivery drivers, forcing them to show him their phone when it is an unnecessary and completely redundant step, exclusive to this restaurant, not a required part of our job. I've already confirmed for them that I am the proper delivery person by knowing the customers name, same EVERY OTHER RESTURANT IN UTC. When our phone batteries are dying, and we're waiting 10 mins plus for an order, the last thing we want to do is give our phone to a stranger. I'd long sense resigned to having to show him my phone after being annoyed by his time wasting and consuming persistence, costing us drivers precocious additional time to be able to make more than 1 delivery an hr due to customers never being at the location they specify when we arrive. They say "meet outside" yet take 10 mins to arrive after we do. Because of this, we rarely make minimum wage. if they were present on time upon our arrival we would. This last time, I showed the man my order when he asked, so he could see the name, then I turned the screen off to save battery, then unneeded, yet he continued to demand it. I had already confirmed the order orally before this. In the end he would not give my customer's order, no matter how long I showed him all the ordered information for on my phone. Immature, unable to let go of his personal vendetta, unprofessional man. None of the other employees who work there need to see the customers orders on my phone. They have the curtesy of trust and respect which I can find at most UTC restaurants. I will never walk into his place again, after delivering from here...

I never leave reviews, but I had to for this one. We are new in the area and looking to find our pho spot. We came across this one and heard things about the wings. So, we ordered the salt and pepper chicken wings, which I was really looking forward to and a steak pho. We were here at the store pretty late at night. Almost towards the closing. The pho broth itself wasn't that great, but figured whatever at the end of the night broth it's okay. The chicken looked great, but it tasted different. My husband and I took one each and did not like it and left it. Towards the end i told him, hey, we do not care for this one.If you can, please take that off. They said that "because we make food per order, Per request that we cannot resell the food.So we cannot take it off of our bill". I was mind blown!! Why would they even say that as an excuse to not take it off of our bill. You should not resell food that other people have touched at the first place.

Also, how else does a restaurant work? You make an order and they prepare your order per request right.... am I missing something here? Like He made it seem as if it was my fault that I ordered something and because I ordered it i have no the choice but to pay for it even if I didn't like the food and returned Most of it. He also said that, "Well, we don't really have this problem.Usually so because of that, you know, it's just not right that we give you the money back". And I said, I didn't need any of this and i'm not paying for it.We had to battle in order for us to have that taken off. It's just the principle. I just never have ever told a customer before wo came to my restaurant and didn't like their food with most of the food still left in the plate and say because they ordered it and we make it per request, It's not fair because we cannot resell it so therefore not give you the money back. It just doesn't Make any sense and I was p*. So please, if you go to this restaurant, keep in mind once you order it. They make it per order and God forbid You don't like it.You're gonna definitely still pay for it. CHOOSE...

Tonight, March 7, 2019 I had terrible experience at this restaurant, and will ABSOLUTELY NEVER RETURN. We went as a family of 3 visiting from out of town. My young 6yr old daughter is allergic(anaphylactic) to many types of food which means she has severe reactions to different types of food if ingested.

In addition to our order, we wanted to order a side order of rice for her. The waitress said she would check but the owner said no, then we told the waitress about her condition and she went back and asked the owner again. Again, the answer was no. I could not believe it? Not only is this a form of discrimination but also horrible customer service. Both my wife and I couldn't believe what we just heard. No explanation why side orders aren't offered? Heck, if they said $5-10, although expensive we would have paid. My daughter just wants to eat with us! I felt terrible for my daughter, for us and the poor waitress that has to work here.

In hindsight we should of left..but I had already started to eat my dinner and didn't want to take off without paying (my wife was too upset and didn't eat). My daughter is a trooper and told us it was ok.

FYI, I am Vietnamese and have had Vietnamese food from all over the world. Some are amazing and others are ok. But never have I experience this. The food at this restaurant is to be less than desired. Lemon grass chicken does not mean to squeeze lemons on it (it tasted sour/pickled). I'm pretty sure the owner is not Vietnamese, and likely purchase the restaurant because it had great clientele. Well, keep it up as its about to change.

The one puzzling thing to me is how is this restaurant even busy on a Thursday night? Not knowing the area, the only thing I can think of is there's not enough close competition around for this cuisine and maybe close to a college or University? La Jolla, someone needs to open up another Viet Restaurant. Until then I will go back to the trusted and amazing Pho Point Loma & Grill. 4.4 rating and over 570 reviews. vs this place 3.9 and 267 reviews.
