I am a recent "grad" of the Specialized Copyediting Certificate Program & for the most part, I learned what I came to learn! The first 2 of my 3 teachers were very professional but fun, giving us clear & constructive guidance & feedback, & useful hands-on learning. Those 2 instructors were also very timely in responses to my questions & they kept open communication so we were always aware of what was going on. But my last class changed my opinion entirely. In week 2 of 10, my instructor had to leave us for some reason & the one I got stuck with was less knowledgeable & too informal & distracted for my taste, & shr did not inform us that there was a change to the provided course materials. I didn't know this until after turning in a major project, which was completed in multiple parts, & I went from an A on the individual parts to a B on the whole in the final submission. Make sense of that. When I tried to address her, she dismissed it. I went to the program manager & she sided with the instructor. When they say they can change anything at any time, you better believe they will, & at your expense. Also, future students should note that the program went from about $2500 to roughly $3000 this year. I finished in time to avoid the increase but if I had failed my last course, I wouldn't have been able to afford to complete it again. Be sure to download ALL school-provided materials to your own device because if things change, they don't take responsibility. Glad I'm done, and I know I'm good at my new job thanks to the 2...
Read moreThis review is specifically for HIGH SCHOOL students who are looking to take classes hoping to use them for advance placement in college. My son was far ahead in HS, so took Multi-Variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Analog circuits, and Digital Circuits through UCSD Extension his senior year.
While the material and pedagogy of the material was solid, EXTENSION CLASSES DO NOT TRANSFER AS CREDIT TO MOST UNIVERSITIES, including UCs, Cal States, and many private schools. Other friends in HS who took classes at Junior Colleges (Miramar, Palomar, Mesa) had NO PROBLEM transferring their credits. These classes ARE NOT VIEWED THE SAME AS UCSD CLASSES.
If you just need a refresher or want to learn the material on your own, UCSD Extension could work for you. But for true college credit at a cheaper cost, take a community college...
Read moreThis is in regards to the lactation pathway 2. I spent over $2,000 on pre reqs and first aid training. Being a stay at home mom and trying to save up to buy a house that’s not chump change. The staff on hand never returned phone calls and they never found me a clinical site so I wasn’t accepted. Now months later I can’t even reapply. the programs entirely shut down due to restaffing.... I’m not going to need all those courses for anything else. No other school I know if requires them. I’d like 3 months of my life back plus the money! I was so excited to help get my foot in the door and jumpstart my pathway to being an RN/ lactation consultant. not going to happen I guess. Hopefully they fix some things but for now I’m so upset I...
