So this is a doozy! I am a former Marriott Ambassador member who is currently Titanium elite. For a time, my significant other had me on the employee friends and family explore program. As a Titanium and Ambassador, even though I had benefits, I didn't ever abuse the privilege. I also walked on eggshells using the explore rate because I am aware that some employees can be very petty and vindictive for no reason at all. on September 8, 2024, I went to check in and the desk clerk was there and was not very welcoming. She didn't barley acknowledged my presence let alone say "thank you for being a titanium member" which I am used to hearing. Now I have checked in this hotel over a dozen times at this point and felt I had interactions with the staff, even tipping the Sheraton club staff regularly. This time was a bit different. I continued with my check in and realized I left my wallet in the car. I went and retrieved it, came back to the desk and said. "I would like to thank me for being a titanium member" sarcastically to which she responded, "you're welcome". I thought nothing else of it and went on with my stay. I was there for three days with no issues. In fact, I stayed over one extra day as I was only booked for 2 days at check in. I went to check out and even gave my business card to the desk clerk to pass on the manager for our audio production company services. I left without incident or so i assumed. Once I got to my next destination i got a call from my "partner" in Vegas who asks, "What did you do?" I was confused and found out that the clerk had reported me for being "dismissive" of an employee. She was being reprimanded, placed on probation, I was being kicked off the explore program and her explore privileges were being suspended for a year. I was beyond shocked and decided to go back to the hotel to find out what i had done so egregious that it warranted such a response. I went and sat for 10 minutes waiting for management. They sent out a lady who said she was the guest services manager. I attempted a calm conversation after witnessing the desk clerks get berated by another guest and treat him with great respect...my conversation remained calm throughout however, there was still no rational reason for the reporting me. I was informed I was disrespectful and as the conversation progressed, it became multiple employees were saying this. Now I am even more alarmed. With over 200 stays in 2024 at that time, I had ZERO complains or issues on my account. It became clear she was not going to give me a credible answer and at this point she decided the conversation was over and the told me to leave the premises and that I was no longer welcome there. I obliged and left the premises. I was not gone more than 10 minutes when I got another call from Vegas because the services manager called to lodge a complaint about my asking for an explanation. The following week I get a call saying that she called and insinuated that my rewards points may have been fraudulently obtained thru my significant other and asked that they investigate. Of course, that was false and was shut down immediately. At that point we were at the harassment stage. I have so much going on and travel so much that I didn't have time to give this much energy. I had a moment today, so I wanted to get this out. I would NEVER recommend this location to anyone ever. I stay at several other Sheraton/Marriott locations in San Diego regularly, and they treat me with great respect and dignity. I also notice that the treatment I get being on a Titanium rate as opposed to the explore rate makes a massive difference. I feel badly for Marriott employees if my experience is indicative (and it is, i have asked managers and other employees) or how people are treated on the explore program. None of that ever would have happened had I checked in on my titanium or ambassador rate. Kudos to Sheraton Misson Valley and to Residence Inn Gaslamp! They...
Read moreI have stayed at this location twice in the last month and for a total of 4 nights. I am also a long time Marriott Rewards member (500+ nights, lifetime Gold, current Titanium, at least 9 straight years of Platinum level).
The first stay and experience was not bad. Maybe a 4.5 out of 5 stars. The hotel rooms are very run down and outdated. The hallways smell moldy. I saw sandbags around the entrances of the lower levels, which suggests they had a flooding issue. The first room they put me in smelled of cigarettes. The hotel staff was friendly and quick to change my room. I appreciated the staff's response to the issue and being accommodating. Stuff like this happens from time to time, so what is important is the staff's response. The grounds are very pretty.
The second stay, and will for sure be my last, was not a positive experience. First and foremost, there was no hot water in my room the morning I checked out. I tried letting the water run in both the sink and shower, but after 5 or so minutes, it was still cold. This is strange since there was hot water the prior day. I called down to the front desk. It took several calls to finally speak to a person. When the front desk finally answered, the front desk person was not very polite. The person assured me that 'engineering had fixed the problem' (or something similar), which came off as if I was making the issue up. Then the person said 'I am putting you on hold' and before I got a word in, I was put on hold for an extended period of time. Frankly, I don’t have a lot of time to be hold when I have to get to work. What was really needed in that situation was a solution and I did not get the sense from this particular staff member that they cared about finding a solution. When I went to go check out, the same front desk person was aggressive and adversarial on top of not seeming to care about there being a lack of hot water.
I can understand some properties being a little outdated. I can understand staff not being friendly. And I can understand other issues, like not having hot water. When you have stayed over 500 nights at Marriott, you are going to experience a lot. However, this particular staff member’s response was abnormal and concerning. I try to avoid hyperbole but I can’t help but feel that this latest stay at the Sheraton La Jolla was one of the worst experiences I have had at a Marriott property. The experience has given me pause in booking future stays a Marriott property and I just may switch my status to...
Read moreCame here for quick three night business trip with my husband. The hotel was chosen by his work. The front of this hotel and in the middle of the hotel where the pool and hot tub were, looked very tropical with a lot of palm trees and plants but as you go in the back of the hotel, it's bare. There is a large lawn area where a reception can be held. We didn't get to try the pool or hot tub though. We also didn't get to try their gym as it's also provided to their guests. There is a breakfast and dinner restaurant inside the main building. Our room was on the first floor in the back area of the hotel. Oh and by the way, you have to pay parking to have a car parked here. Make sure you are aware of this fee. It’s pretty expensive.
The layout of the room was like any other hotel stay. Lots of light. Nice shutter blinds but some were broken. We asked for a king size bed but we got two queens. That's fine by me but it would be nice to get what we asked for. The two queen beds room was a little cramped but I think if it was a king bed room, there would be more space and hopefully a bigger table. We would ask to move to another room but we just stayed and tolerated it as we were not here for pleasure.
Pillows are way too soft; even if I use 4, I am sinking. The table to use if you needed to eat or work on is small but there is plenty of outlets, and usb A and C plugs, too. The faucet and showerhead are old fixtures. It was hard showering as the water barely came out so you have to change the setting to the hard middle massage spray to get more water. It's time for an upgrade now. Towels were plenty and clean. There is a mini frig and microwave to use. They offer free coffee and tea but did not use. There are water bottles for purchase but you have to pay $2ea.
First time we came in our room, there was a surprise for us. There were two bugs we found in the bathroom and by the frig. A good size, too. The same for the next two days. It's probably from all the tree and plants in the area but it must be coming in from somewhere. We made sure our luggage and bags were closed. The hotel and bed sheets were clean but you can tell this hotel is old. Time to update the interior of the rooms.
This hotel would not be my first choice but I did love the surrounding area as there is plenty of places to eat walking distance. This is also close to the Westfield LaJolla mall. The price per night is not worth it for me but we...
