Pronounced "el tee-ain-gees" (kinda rhymes with "hangry", and apparently means "street market"), this little gem was a wonderful find. We rolled in close to closing time, but were still served and allowed to dine-in by the kind and friendly owner. The joint has a casual vibe and also allows for takeout, but I'd recommend sitting in to eat your taquitos as fresh as possible! DO note that, much like the rest of San Diego at this time, strict COVID masking up, vaccine checks, and distancing are NOT currently enforced here. We got 12 taquitos to share between the 2 of us, and it proved to be plenty of food. We could've done with 10, but they aren't served in that quantity (at least on the menu). We wanted to try all the flavors, so we got 3 beef, 3 chicken, 3 Cali, 2 potato, and 1 vegan (quinoa and lentils), all loaded with the works (cheese, sour cream, shredded lettuce, guac- we chose ours with pico de gallo salsa) and also requested all 3 sauces to try (a non-spicy green tomatillo, a mild red, and a "spicy" darker red which didn't turn out to be very spicy at all to us). The owner was also very kind in presenting each flavor to us upon delivery. Everything was so delicious! (Again- DEFINITELY eat these fresh!) The taquitos' textures are wonderfully crispy outside and satisfyingly soft inside, and so much more delicious when made fresh this way than the frozen stuff you can get at the grocery! That stuff is like a shadow of this stuff- as if the one-dimensional stuff we'd tried before (the frozen buys) came to life with stunning colors I didn't know they had possible in 'em. I was quite a fan of the potato ones, actually, and enjoyed my beef ones the best out of all the meat options (though they all tasted great!). The sauces all went well with them and you can't go wrong (I personally liked the darker "spicy" red one the most). All the toppings really took our taquitos experience to the next level. I highly recommend El Tianguis if you're in the area, for solid, delicious taquitos that make for a great full meal! (The toppings, including guac and lettuce and stuff, really push these out of the "snack" category into real meal deals!) ... and big thanks to the lovely owner for welcoming us so well to San Diego! With such yummy places to try, our time here is a guaranteed win. I only wish there were more places like this all over, so we could have them more frequently in the future!

If you're hunting for a gluten-free dining experience that doesn't skimp on flavor, look no further than El Tianguis Rolled Taquitos. Tucked away in the heart of the city, this vibrant gem has quickly become my go-to spot for Mexican cuisine that caters to those with gluten sensitivities without compromising on taste or authenticity. First off, the ambiance at El Tianguis is as warm and welcoming as the Mexican sun. The decor, with its colorful murals and traditional pottery, transports you straight to a bustling Mexican market. But let's talk about the star of the show – the food. Their signature rolled taquitos are an absolute delight. Made with fresh, gluten-free corn tortillas, each taquito is filled to the brim with a choice of savory fillings. I tried the beef barbacoa, which was tender and perfectly seasoned, and the veggie option with roasted sweet potatoes and black beans, which was surprisingly flavorful. Both were topped with a fresh salsa verde that added just the right amount of zing. The menu extends beyond taquitos to include other gluten-free delights like their quesadillas, which are made with homemade masa, ensuring every bite is safe and delicious. Don't miss out on their guacamole, which is chunky, fresh, and served with gluten-free tortilla chips that are crispy and satisfying. The service at El Tianguis is exemplary; the staff is knowledgeable about gluten-free dining, making you feel both safe and cared for. They're eager to explain ingredients and preparations to ease any concerns. For drinks, they offer a range of options, including aguas frescas that are both refreshing and gluten-free. The horchata was a personal favorite, subtly sweet with a delightful cinnamon note. Desserts are not an afterthought here. The churros, made from a gluten-free dough, are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and come with a rich chocolate dipping sauce. It's hard to believe they're gluten-free! In conclusion, El Tianguis Rolled Taquitos isn't just a restaurant; it's an experience. It's a testament to how gluten-free dining can be inclusive, delicious, and true to the roots of Mexican cuisine. Whether you're gluten-free by necessity or choice, this place will make you feel like you're part of the fiesta. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable meal that celebrates both tradition and dietary inclusivity. Rating: 5/5

I absolutely love rolled tacos, and when I found out about this place, I couldn’t wait to try it out. Since it was my turn to pick the place for lunch, this was my choice. It’s located in a rather small strip mall and as soon as I pulled in, I realized that parking could be a challenge. We got lucky as a couple of cars pulled out just as we pulled in. As you walk in the door, you are immersed in brightly colored Mexican artwork with culturally appropriate music playing in the background. I took note of just how clean and neat the place was it was impressive. You’re even able to see into the kitchen and it’s very clean and brightly lit. Only thing I didn’t like were the steel barstool seats. If you have a bony butt, they are uncomfortable. I ordered four rolled tacos that come with cabbage, guacamole, and pico de gallo and my other friends ordered two Carnitas taco combo with beans and rice, and one just ordered two Carne Asada tacos. The rolled tacos, although the same length as most rolled tacos I’ve had, were more plump and when I bit into one, the crust was really nicely crispy. That is definitely one of my must have criteria for a good rolled taco. They weren’t at all greasy and the shredded beef filling had a nice unique flavor. They’re not the belly bombs I’m used to getting at other fast food, Mexican joints, so I could’ve handled a couple of more of’em. The scoop of guacamole was kind of hidden under some shredded cabbage and pico de gallo, and I didn’t realize it until I had eaten one of the rolled tacos. Next time, and I look forward to the next time, I’ll make sure to spread the guacamole around before I eat those little tacos. Both of my friends really enjoyed the food they ordered and agreed that the flavor was different from most other Mexican fast food restaurants and different in a good way. And the service was also really good. The young woman who took our order, was pleasant, helpful and told us to go have a seat and she’ll bring our meals out to us when they’re ready. And it didn’t take very long to get our food, maybe five minutes. The menu is not extensive, just some nachos, rice bowls or loaded fries in addition to tacos, so if you go there, you’re going there for either rolled or regular tacos. But I think that’s what makes the food a little bit better, their focus is on fewer items made better.
