This place was absolute trash. When we walked in we were asked how many? There were 3 of us. Was rudely told to âgo wait outsideâ We waited until we were called in and seated. While outside we looked over the menu. So once seated we had questions since it was our first time there. The waiter took about 18 minutes to stop by the table to ask if we were ready to order. We asked our questions. Waiter walked off. Waiter came back some time later and we ordered.
Shrimp n grits- shrimps were way under cooked and not edible. Imagine rocks in your mouth. Shrimp was rubbery. *Fried shrimp basket- shrimp was rubbery and old at the same time. Grease was definitely old. *Cajun boil - 1lb of crab legs (1cluster), 1/2lb of shrimp (4shrimp), 2 potatoes. All priced at market ordered spicy.
The crab boil was terrible. We asked the waiter if we could have some extra seasoning because it was bland and he stated âitâs going to be an extra chargeâ. I was baffled by that by whatever, itâs bland it needs something. After asking sever times the waiter finally brought a cup of broth and slammed it on the table. It taste like ramen noodle juiceâŚ. Literally.
So after a horrible experience I asked the waiter how was the food prepared. His response, itâs boiled then they put it in a bag and pour the juice on it.
NO WONDER IT TASTES LIKE NOTHING. Itâs boiled in plain water then flavor is poured on top. If youâve ever had a true crab boil even in bag, you know that this process is incorrect.
Also if you know anything about seafood you know that rubbery shrimp is subpar. Also, you can kinda have an idea what a pound or half pound is.
My recommendations âŚ.. if you know betterâŚ.. donât frequent this establishment. Itâs not worth it. For our horrible experience, we received a 5% discount. The only thing that was eaten was the crab cluster and fried shrimp.
All that and parking is extremely limited. (Understated)
Oh, their lemons are great!! Very fresh. Would I return? No, not even if it was free. We should have eaten at Popeyes next door. 10/10 do not...
Read moreSpent my birthday this year here (July 2) because crab is my favorite and I wanted crab from a place that had some of the flavors of where I come from (South Carolina). I love the casual small business vibes of a local seafood diner in the South. A lot of the seafood out here is the same flavor (no flavor) and doesn't use the Cajun or Creole culinary style that Southern seafood joints do. I love my California and really wanted a taste of home in the place I now call home. This place did not disappoint! Was happy to see their menu had Cajun fries, fried okra, fried catfish, mussels, clams, crawfish, Cajun crab legs!! And more. But I order the crab legs with the "house sauce" that had my beloved Cajun flavor in. It was finger lickin good! Loved their version of Cajun! The okra was even better than the Cajun fries but boy was I happy to have some Cajun fries too. That okra had a perfect crust, perfect flavor, and the sauce was perfect too! The crab legs couldn't have been any better unless maybe I ordered the King Crab but I was just as happy with the usual Snow Crab legs. Crab legs are crab legs! But I have gotten tired of San Diego restaurants that don't offer some Cajun or Southern seafood vibes. The vibes in this place were so friendly. There was a regular in there enjoying their ghost pepper hot crab legs. I'll definitely be going back too. The spice level we ordered was just a step below the hottest one. It was enough to enjoy the flavor with a kick good enough to open the sinuses a bit too. The fried catfish was great! Not something I've seen in a lot of restaurants out here. Wayne was a terrific host. He checked on us regularly without being excessive. I appreciated his hospitality. He was very kind and professional. The kitchen crew did a spectacular job and made me want to eat there again! So happy we found this place! Very cute decor as well. The only thing that couldâve made it better is if I couldâve gotten a seafood boil that included the Cajun crab legs, mussels, clams, potatoes, corn,...
Read moreWow, what a terrific new restaurant to add to favorites. Seven of us (all serious foodies) ate there last night, and we were smitten by the excellent quality of cuisine and service. Here are the items we ordered and our assessment for each: Fried catfish: perfectly (well) seasoned, crisp cornmeal coating with no hint of grease and as good as my southern grandmother's. Shellfish boil: comprised of 1 pound each of shrimp, mussels and clams swimming in a shallow puddle of magically seasoned oil (it's listed as "Cajun sauce"), intermixed with corn on the cob, sausage and red potatoes. Each item comprising the boil was highly seasoned, succulent and memorable. Seasoned sweet potato fries and crisp russet potato seasoned fries: Let's just say there's no way that either dish could be improved upon. Fried okra: a real stunner of a dish. I'm sure the okra began as pre-cut, frozen pieces like you buy in a grocery store, but completely transformed through excellent seasoning, and battered and fried just shy of caramelization. Head and shoulders above ANY restaurant okra I've had, and running neck-and-neck with my grandmother's. Again I remind you the restaurant has only been open for one week, yet the fried items are masterfully seasoned, greaseless and cornmeal crispy. Let me not forget the servers who are well versed in the menu, attentive and welcoming. My dining mates and I are in thrall with owner Shirley Ng. Shrimp Heads reflects her all encompassing attention to every detail. Cajun cuisine is not food she grew up with, yet her restaurant passes as Cajun Heaven! Thank you, Shirley, for a magical evening of super food. You made this southern boy VERY happy and nostalgic for the food I grew up with. "Laissez le bon...
