This is from an experience a month ago, but I was on vacay and just getting around to it. It was a take out order for two, chicken and beef chow mein. Let me just start the my favorite style of chow mein is no noodles but bean sprouts instead. And they do it here! So why the two stars? Here we go:

Although the chow mein was ok in flavor the meat pieces were absolutely huge, it sorta takes away from the flavor and experience. I ordered an additional of fried rice. I have no idea how fried rice is defined here, it's unlike any I've had before. It was essentially mushy brown rice with bits of egg occasionally. No peas, no carrots, no onions, it's an absolute void of vegetables and it tastes exactly as the visual description, no thanks.

And this last part was really what got me in a bad mood about the whole experience to begin with. I order all the aforementioned by phone, I show up, I'm given a big brown bag with everything inside. I pick up big brown bag from the bottom, there was a quite a bit inside and I wanted to mess. Take bag to car place in front seat, drive 7 blocks to home. Pick up big brown bag from base and start heading for door. Halfway there, my torso is unusually warm, I get in, place bag on counter. That's when I noticed my shirt and bag were wet. I went to the car and the whole front seat was wet, it was leaking from the moment I put the bag in maybe even before. It was leaking prominently from one corner so that when I picked it up, it was a magical position in which I didn't feel it initially. So it was a scramble to get the contents in the sink to avoid further messes and then work at somehow distributing the food, all the while having to clean up the car.

This place needs to get a better distributor of packaging. Also, look what fried rice is and take a moment and cut up the meat a little. Needless to say, not...

I'm only giving this place one star because I have to in order to leave a review. I first want to start by saying that I have been a customer of City Dragon for over a decade and personally know the owner and her husband. Well, unfortunately I have allergies to shellfish and mushrooms, and at times my order has been incorrect and when I call they have always been courteous and made it right. Today was not like that! I always order the crispy noodles substitute the shrimp for BBQ pork and no mushrooms. When I served my plate I noticed there was mushrooms, so I called to let them know. The wife answered and got mad at me saying they checked it three times and that it was right, and as I tried to explain she hung up on me. I would like to add that I go there so often that she knows me by my first name. After that I thought the call dropped so I called back and her husband answered reiterating what she had just told them. I then proceeded to let him know I was going to take the food back so they can see for themselves. As I arrived the wife totally ignored me and just gave me a new order. I tried showing her and she told me she didn't have time for me and to leave, so I asked for the noodles that come with my order. While I was waiting I asked her why she couldn't just apologize if her cooks were wrong and she just ignored me. When I walked out I told her that I would no longer support her business. She was so rude and disrespectful that I was flabbergasted by...

I LOVE "CITY DRAGO" FOODS. DELICIOUS!! THEIR HOURS OF OPERATION ARE GREAT TOO! NEVER TOO LATE TO CATCH THEM OPEN. PROMPT SERVICE IN-HOUSE. PROMPT FRONT DOOR DELIVERY. FOOD ALWAYS HOT, FRESH AND READY TO GO!! IF YOU HAVEN'T GIVEN THEM A TRY...PLEASE DO. YOU'LL BE SATISFIED!!! UPDATE: 9/20/21. TO DATE I HAVE DISCONTINUED EATING FROM THIS LOCATION. OFF AND ON THERE WERE DISSATISFACTION ON THE FOOD. EITHER, UNDERCOOKED FOOD ITEM, FRESHNESS DOWN GRADED, THE MEAT WAS DRY, AND NOT ABLE TO CHEW IT TO SWALLOW, HAD TO THROW IT OUT! LACK OF TASTE/ FLAVOR ( NOT SIRE CAUSE IS BECAUSE OF DIFFERENT COOKS) MY LAST ORDER THERE, THE MEAT HAD A SMELL OF URINE. LASTLY, ON THAT PARTICULAR ORDER, I BECAME SICK TO MY STOMACH. AND THAT WASN'T THE FIRST TIME I HAD GOTTEN AN UPSET STOMACH. DONE DOING BUSINESS THERE. PERIOD!!

UPDATE:JULY, 2022, been a cutomer here approximately 3-4 years. the food was always great and prepared to my delight. at the height of the pandemic there begain to be up's and downs. within these last two years to just recent i've had bad experiences. from getting sick to my stomach, food that has a bad odor, undercooked, or, overcooked. there were also occassions where the food would taste like the paper box it came in. my recent experience renered it being my very last doing business there. consistency are key in any place of business. from my experiences, city dragon slacks...

The name of this restaurant caught my attention. I like and I love dragons 🐉 ♥️ in general. I wanted to give this a try based on the dragon reference. There was no one in the restaurant when we walked in and it gave an appearance that no one pays attention to this place. However, we found out that their pay system was down and that they were only taking orders through their app on online. We were about to go online and order and low and behold they were back online. Of course, that made all the difference in the world to order our food. We ordered our food ... wonton soup, Singapore noodles, sweet and sour fish. 😋 They have a large selection and options to choose from. However, there's a feel of a mom and pop shop, small restaurant in a plaza, little or tiny seating area and drinks come in cans or bottled water. Hardly any decorations. We gave it a try and that's all that matters. We did enjoy the food and its fairly good. Happy eating 😋

This parking plaza is so tiny. The area is also sketchy. Street parking is metered along the side street but free along El Cajon Blvd. We went with the basic standard safe dishes and ordered salt and pepper tofu ($10), salt and pepper chicken wings ($13), and orange chicken with rice ($13.50). The tofu was lightly breaded and deep fried with soft crispy shell and soft interior. Had chili garlic and scallion toppings that gave it a kick. The salt and pepper wings were jumbo and very crispy with all the flavors. Orange chicken was also well made. Had the tangy sauce. I think this is one of the better Chinese restaurants that I’ve been to based on these three dishes. It was hot, made to order and fresh. Clean, had seating, it’s just the parking lot that needs a reserved space for pick up.

I really enjoyed my visit to City Dragon. If you are looking for fancy, then keep looking. If you are looking for some good Chinese food at a reasonable price then this is it! They have a small parking lot in front but it's shared by three small restaurants and a laundromat so you might have to park on the street at lunch time. The place is clean and the menu is large. I ordered black pepper beef off the lunch specials listed on the front counter. It came with white rice but I paid a little extra for fried. It came out quickly, and was hot and fresh. This place is clearly owner operated... A big plus in my book. They told me that they had been open for almost 13 years! Check them out next time you in the El Cajon Blvd area. They are open for lunch and dinner.
