Northgate González Market — Attraction in San Diego

Northgate is my go-to Mexican Market. While I love the fresh flour tortillas at Pancho Villa, I enjoy shopping at Northgate much more. Northgate offers a good variety of produce. The produce section is very organized and there are never bugs flying everywhere. The meat counter is also very clean and organized. The number system ensures you are helped in the order you arrived. The meat counter employees are always very friendly and helpful. The bakery department smells like heaven when you are walking through the store and I love their tres leches cake. The tortillaria has a good variety of tortillas and occasionally offers special items like Hatch Chile tortillas. They were very hard to get and I had to visit multiple times and call even more, but they were wonderful. Truly there is no other tortilla like them. The salsas they offer are great. My favorite is the avocado salsa, it is wonderfully painfully hot, but I love it.

My reasoning for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is my issue with getting the Hatch tortillas. It was in the ad when it would be available and it ended up being the people in the tortillaria would make them when they felt like it. There was no schedule and It took me over a month to find a day when I could buy them. Also, the tamales are not the best, they are mostly masa with little meat in them. REPLY TO NORTHGATE : Respectfully, I do not need to call and discuss this matter further. I have already explained what happened and provided a description of the individual responsible. At this point, it is your responsibility to do your due diligence and address the issue appropriately.

I recently had a very disturbing experience at your store that I feel management and ownership need to be aware of. While shopping, I witnessed behavior from one of your meat clerks that was completely unacceptable. The employee I observed was a male, appearing to be in his early to mid-thirties, bald with facial hair, of medium build, and with a noticeably unfriendly demeanor.

What I witnessed was shocking and degrading this employee humiliated someone in front of others. The young lady ended up leaving in tears. It was not only unprofessional, it was cruel. As a customer, I have to ask: why would your company employ someone who behaves this way?

The fact that other employees stood by makes it even more concerning. This type of conduct damages your company’s reputation and makes customers feel unsafe and uncomfortable.

I do not want an apology. I want action. If this is not addressed appropriately, I have half a mind to write directly to the owners, because this type of behavior has no place in a professional...

So! Today I was in this store. I was look for a good chicken meat. I trusted the store because on the package said" trusted good meat". So I bough it. So when I came home I was like enjoy washing and cutting the chicken... I Start noticing something. The smell doesn't smell normal to me and it feel mashy. So I take a look closely yo the meat and it really is not a good meat and I started feeling weird my hand start feeling itchy. So I called the store and complain about it and I spoken to Salvador that his last name, wants me to come over to refund the money. So I waited on home. Few minutes later... He came told me " we will refund the money and we will give you a gift card" (gift card for what? To shop again at the same store) I have people waiting for me and I felt starving. So I waited for the refund so it took them long. So o told them you know what just keep the money I nerd to go. I will definitely recommend if you are shopping at northgate be careful. Even though it said on the date still good the checkin insself is bad. You don't wanna deal with the same problem I have. Because the checkin I bought the date on the package was not expired it was good. But the meat inside was bad. So just one friends advice... Becareful buying meat...
