It is a nice location, close to all the attractions of Balboa Park. I found parking on the street right next to the park, but within 10 minutes of arriving, the entire street was packed. I went on a weekday like 10 am. There were a lot of homeless people that were yelling and in general it just made me nervous to let my 18 month old run around. There was quite a bit of trash on the ground, so I also didn’t feel comfortable with my 6 month old crawling on a blanket since he tends to get off the blanket rather quickly! Anyway, we left early because I just couldn’t relax in that environment. Some of the toys were broken too, and I was afraid my daughter would get hurt on shad edges. The park is beautiful with the older/grown trees and great shade for a picnic, but the playground is not shaded and can get very hot mid-day. . I love that there is a nice sand pit and two separate play structures for both smaller and older kids to enjoy and swings. Read morePlayground structure is in the middle of the sun with no shade. Almost half of the structure is closed or taped off because it’s broken… bathrooms on both sides. Good parking. Right next to Balboa Park. Lots of grassy spots with shade for activities. Lots of pavement for bikes and scooters. I think we’ll come back, just not in the dead of summer.
