Upon entering the restaurant there was a cage with parrots inside. I would like to give the benefit of the doubt as to why there would be two caged animals in front of a vegan restaurant but I am having a hard time trying to find any sort of justification for torturing animals by keeping them in a cage outside to see other members of their species fly around freely.

In addition to this, my boyfriend and I gave our order to the female register attendant along with a coffee that she had trouble being able to serve as requested. (Let me preface this next part with we were literally the only people in the restaurant). We waited for a while then my boyfriend received the meal he ordered. The burrito I ordered never came out. The cook happened to walk by and asked why we weren't eating. I explained I was waiting for my food and he said he never received the order so he would go make it right then. A little while later the cook brought me out some sort of salad and affirmed that it was the burrito. It was definitely not a burrito, much less moderalty resembling the picture of a the burrito featured on their menu.

The female register attendant had a hard time answering simple questions and seemed to repeat facts about the restaurant several times in an effort to respond to anything we asked or said.

The food wasn't bad but the entire experience...

Delicious creative vegan paradise right inside balboa park!!! Today was my first time stopping by the One World Beat Cafe in person, I've had them delivered by doordash dozens of times since moving here and it's always been totally flavorful and filling.

It's easy to drive past and not even notice the spot, so look for parking once you drive past the playground as it's just around the bend before the right turn into Balboa Park. I scored a spot in the small lot at the cultural center just above the cafe. The staff and cafe team was working nonstop and continuously checking in with the other diners and myself.

The menu options are limited, but carefully crafted to showcase different flavor palates. I was sad they were out of my favorite Ethnobotany salad, but my fault for coming so late in the day. It's clear the entire team puts love into the experience, image, and food.

Very happy with my choice to stop by late afternoon wish I had stopped by more often when I lived in the area....

I almost missed this place until I heard “someone” calling to me trying to get my attention. I later find out it is the parrot at the entrance 😂. Super cute! Overall my experience was absolutely phenomenal. The food is nothing like I could have imagined. If you are looking to try something healthy, fresh, and culturally unique this is the place to go. I very much enjoyed eating in the relaxing environment of the garden. This place not busy at all which makes the garden feel even more intimate and relaxing. The salad is fresh hand picked from the garden which is super exciting to watch as your meal is being prepared. The presentation of the salad also blew me away…. I mean it looked so pretty I felt guilty eating it at first 😂. Service here is wonderful. Everyone is super nice and very passionate about what they do which is nice to see. Definitely eating...

The World Beat Cafe is one of those amazing finds in Balboa Park that makes you come back more and more. First off, the food is Caribbean, vegan, and de-lish-ous! The whole menu is this savory collection of local and ethnic options: curries, gumbos, patties, plantains, fruit juices... much of it comes from their local garden on site. The chef is a pioneer in health food and plant-based diets. Ask about Moringa! Plus, there's always something amazing going on at the Beat, so you get a free show: taiko, capoeria, drumming, dance... all sots of practices and performances. Or just go look at the walls! Or into the garden! The World Beat is a truly magical place that takes care of you with healthy food and feeds your mind with healthy music and community.

😱😱 Why does this place not have higher ratings and reviews?! They’ve delicious food! It was… soulful! I’d the Jamaican patties with spicy cabbage filling - it was flavorful with the perfect amount of spice for me! 🙂 I also ordered the Costa Chica Chili - 😋😋 it wasn’t hot(spicy) but flavors of many spices came through in the food. I really enjoyed this dish! I felt very… satisfied! I’d also ordered the spirulina elixer - it was spicy with strong ginger flavor! If you can handle spicy ginger, definitely give this a try! This place offers really heart-warming food! Even if you’re not a vegan/vegetarian - definitely visit this place! 😊
