Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden — Attraction in San Diego

This is a very expansive and complete rose garden! The roses are large, healthy, and lots of blooms. There is an amazing number of varieties represented here and fortunately, most varieties have at least one name tag. 1600 roses and 130 varieties, very impressive! They have also won several garden awards from the American Rose Society. Some of the varieties I have never heard of which is certainly expected. What I was surprised at is some of the great classics were not represented (assuming I just didn't miss them which I certainly could have despite a thorough search). Peace is there but not Veteran's Honor, Gold Medal, or Sheila's Perfume to name a few highly rated roses. I am sure they must have Jean Kenneally miniatures since she was one of founders of the rose garden but I couldn't find them. The Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden is located in Balboa Park along Park Boulevard. The garden has over 2500 rose bushes filled with a large variety of fragrant colorful roses.

The rose garden is a beautiful place to visit just to take a stroll or get away from your busy day. The rose garden has a walkway that leads around the garden with seating area throughout. It’s one of my favorite places thus far. It’s truly a beautiful spot to wander, to ponder, or just to be enjoy natures beauty.

The roses bloom from March through December, with the roses usually at their peak in April and May.

The Rose garden is one of the few places in central balboa park where you can regularly get some peace and quiet. Located on eastern edge of the main portion of the park and just above the canyon below, it offers rest and respite from the crowds with lovely views of the canyons and eastern San Diego County. The rose garden itself is well kept and filled with a vast variety of different rose in all colors, shapes and sizes. One of my favorite things is to try and find the rose with the most fun name. If you're in your sunday's best there is no need to worry here as there are propper sidewalks here as opposed to the desert garden just next door.
