We grew up there, me and my rescue dog. We were both afraid of people and men and she was afraid of kids. She passed in 2001 and before many of our neigbors passed or moved away they donated a tree to the city and it was planted in the park in her memory. I would like to know how the tree is doing and place a flower for her because she made me feel like a mom. Don't tell my M-I-L or Nanny because we got them trees this year. My dear friend J took a huge teddy bear my old dog took out to the park to say goodbye before the day she decided to die, and her ashes are in it under a red felt heart edged with lace and tiny beads and love. I move it with wherever we go. I said I grew up there and I was an adult. Some people made all the difference. We went here for the last 3 years and it's quieter than other local playgrounds (Doyle and Nobel rec centers) but usually has a couple families there at all times. The playground area is small but has a couple slides, a tower, swings and a separate toddler area. Because of the ample green space we often see older kids practicing soccer, softball, etc with their parents which is one of the reason we loved this park - you have all ages here. Infants crawling in the sand, kids on the playground, teens practicing sports, and local retirees walking their dogs.

Read moreThis is probably the cleanest park I have been to in my 25 years of being a San Diegan. I believe the people of La Jolla truly take pride in their public spaces. We stopped here for a picnic. There was a small get together down the hill from our perch. Instead of just cramming pizza boxes into the trash bin, she removed the lid, broke down the boxes and made sure all the trash was picked up before she left.
