If you're into scenic viewpoints and free local landmarks, you definitely have to check out the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps. This local stairway is located on Moraga Street. Surprisingly, it was not too crowded when we decided to check it out. Definitely a lot easier if you park at the bottom of the steps; that way, you'll get to enjoy the view of the steps before you actually climb them.
Each individual step is already unique in its own way, but when you take the entire staircase in as a whole, all the steps come together seamlessly. It creates a really beautiful picture - very similar to the ebb and flow of the ocean. It's really awesome how there are these beautiful treasures hidden throughout San Francisco - who would have known?
Even better is after you climb the entire staircase, you're able to take in the view of SF from a higher vantage point. If you come around sunset, you'll really be able to see the city view with the soft, warm glow of the sun as it casts a shadow over SF before it becomes engulfed in darkness.
It'll be a bit difficult to get a good picture without anybody blocking the view or intruding in your photo, but it's worth the wait! There seem to be rushes of people to these tourist-y spots, so wait for a chance where the crowd seems to be minimal and grab your opportunity to get that shot!
tl;dr - Highly recommend you check this place out if you're in to scenic things to do in SF! You'll be...

If you're like me and can't "relax" on a vacation, this is one little adventure that will certainly keep you on your feet and work those leg muscles. San Francisco's secret mosaic staircase is an exciting mini adventure that will kill about an hour or two of your day depending on how quick you move and how many of the steps you're looking to see. Not only are you going to see some amazing views of the city, you'll also get to take in the beauty of tile art as the flowing mosaic runs up 163 steps and swirls around for even more steps that lead up to Grand View Park.
Now, there's a few steps to take in all the steps that are accounted for with this escapade as most people only come for the middle steps on 16th Avenue (between Noriega St. & Moraga St.). But there is also another flight of stairs from the 15th Avenue Steps Park (corner of Kirkham St. and 15th Ave.). It's only a 5 minute walk between the two and the 15th Avenue Steps Park is certainly less crowded though overlooked I would guess since it's all under the shade of the trees and doesn't shine quite as bright. These of course steer you to Grand View Park which offers massive views of the city and Golden Gate Park. All are definitely a hidden gem worth seeking out and conquering, plus it's another completely free escape from the city. Be sure to shout down upon the San...
Read moreIn LOVE with these stairs.
I don't know why I have never been here! I lived in the area for 8+ and didn't even know about these beauties. Such a bummer, because they are gorgeous and lead up to a great overlook point that I would have frequented if I knew about it!
My friend brought me here when I last visited. It was super easy to get to and street parking was easy enough to find - even on a warm Saturday afternoon. It was a little busy on the stairs and overlook point because it was Fleet week. A little difficult to take good pictures with people all around hogging the stairs, sitting, lingering and photo bombing your every attempt to create artistic looking hipster selfies. So I suggest coming on a weekday during an off time.
Otherwise, the steps themselves are gorgeous. And if you go all the way up, you get an amazing view of the sunset district. I could probably sit there for hours. And I am sure people do, great view and perfect for lovers...
