it's been a couple years since I went to this restaurant and the food was not as good as it was before.
the chicken tikka masala had this weird flavor like they use powdered milk or powdered cream or something and it tasted kind of cheesy. the tomato that they used for it also seems like it's canned and not fresh and I did not taste any fresh tomatoes in it. I make chicken tikka masala myself at home and my version tastes a thousand times better than this restaurant's version and only cost a fraction of the price. the portions of spices they used in the tikka masala was not correct and it was also not cooked long enough to allow the spices to get into the sauce.
the salmon tandoori was overdone. it was all black on the outside when they delivered it. aside from that the inside was really dry and the fish was not fresh. the onions had the right flavoring but they were missing the garam masala sauce that goes over the actual fish so the whole meal was kind of dry.
the lamb chops was actually done okay even though it was also overdone and black on the outside. they had onions and lemon at the bottom for favoring.
the biryani rice was cooked to the right consistency but it was pretty plain to me. the only dressing they did with it was putting a few peas on the top. usually at other restaurants they spice up their biryani rice and it tastes a lot better. I'm just glad they at least cook the rice to the right consistency.
the papadum was actually done okay. you can't really go wrong with papadum. although the waiter did forget about my second order of papadum but it was okay because they let us have it for free.
I also drank a mango drink but I feel like they added some extra stuff into it because it was really thick and tasted kind of chalky, they put some kind of filler in it in order to give it more volume. I do not recommend the drink.
I didn't really have any of the naan but judging by the fact that my family did not want to take it home I feel like it was not very good. the consistency of the naan was anywhere from thin to thick. it reminded me more of a pizza crust than naan.
the service was pretty good though the waiters kept asking us if we needed anything and asking us how we were. there was no polite way of communicating to them the quality of the food while we're eating there, less chance of them messing with our food.
the restaurant is kind of empty at the moment so you can probably find seats but most people order out, I think my family counted about 30 people getting take out while...
Read moreMy fiance and I have ordered from here before. We ordered around 830 tonight. Normally you get good portions for the rice, the entree and the salad. Tonight we waited over an hour after ordering the butter chicken, himalayan salad, rice and butter naan. After 40 minutes I call and I get no one to pick up. I get the lady on the phone after another 20 minutes and recieve a short answer of it's coming. Arrives in the next 10 minutes. The delivery guy goes on how he can't take tips on card because the restaurant doesn't pay them to him. Then says they didn't add the soda to the charge and is asking for cash for that. I gather a few loose bills and hand them over waiting to get my food upstairs. We open the chicken and see we have barely a serving of chicken. The chicken they sent wasn't even the chicken that is normally used in the butter chicken. Instead of the chicken pieces they attempted to fluff the small portion with thin slices. The sauce was watery and thin. The naan was burnt in places and looked like it was ripped off of what it was cooked on. The salad was served in a container about the third of the size as it's normal serving container. We have ordered this same order in the past and have enough for both of us to eat off of for 2 meals each. Barely had enough for 1. Do not order later in the night. Don't get it delivered and check it before you leave or get...
Read moreIndian food is a misnomer. There are so many regional variations that it defies easy classification: North Indian, South Indian cuisines, moglai, Konkani, Gujarati, Rajasthani, chaat (street food), Bombay cuisine, Nepali, Indian Chinese, Bengali, the list goes on. Even Pakistani food is sometimes looped into Indian.
Rose is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise uninspired Indian food. Mostly North Indian, with Nepalese or north East Indian influence.
They don’t mute their flavors to better appeal to American palettes. Instead ask for medium spicy to get the best of both worlds.
Their naan is solid. Light, not chewy and crisp. Their Biryani isn’t going to win medals or beat Hyderabad Dum Biryani, but this side of the bay it’s as good as it gets. Lots of flavor. Eggplant is flavorful, minced with a tomato gravy reduction, not too spicy and the eggplant tomato flavors shine through. Their paneer tikka masala is the right combination of sweet and spicy, although I would ask for a smidge more spicy and less sweet. While the paneer (cottage cheese) felt fresh and melts in your mouth.
While this review was for delivery that was eaten several hours later, I can only imagine how wonderful the food is with indoor dining and fresh.
Solid lighter North Indian food in San Francisco. You won’t feel heavy or sleepy after...
