Grand View Park also known as โTurtle Hill,โ an aptly named hilltop park in the Sunset has panoramic views stretching from vast Ocean Beach and Pt. Reyes to its west, Golden Gate Park to its north-east, downtown San Francisco and Lake Merced to its south-east. The park features โa dune plant community atop 140-million-year-old rock called Franciscan chert, which was first formed when the region was part of the ancient sea floor.โ Also, it is notable for its remnant dune scrub vegetation and the presence of rare plants like the Franciscan wallflower.
The 4 hiking routes are as follows: โถ 16th Avenue Tiled Steps & Moraga: take Muni Bus 28 or 28R off Noriega & 19th Ave walk up one block to Moraga hit the colored tile steps [10 floors] will take you all the way to the park. [25 floors.] โท 16th Avenue Hidden Garden Steps: N Judah & 16th Avenue stop, walk up on 16th Ave one block to Kirkham, climb up the colored steps facing you about 6 floors then follow 15th Avenue circle to climb up wooden steps reach the top of the hill. [*25 floors] โธ 15th Avenue Hidden Steps: N Judah & 16th Avenue stop, walk up one block on 15th Ave to Kirkham, turn slightly to left to climb up 10 floors of hidden steps (no color tiles) then follow 15th Avenue circle to climb up wooden steps reach the top of the hill. [*25 floors] โน Moraga Steps: N Judah & Funston climb up on Funston turn right on Moraga; 6, 43, 44 & 66 (scenic route goes around inner Sunset) off 9th Avenue & Lawton walk up to Moraga. ย ย ย Read moreThis park is absolutely magical. You can see almost the entire city from this vantage point. Be prepared to climb some awesome stairs and work those thigh muscles lol. Come to watch the sunset here and stay til the sky turns completely dark. You will be so grateful, as am I for Grandview. Each phase of the sunset every new day here is so spectacularly unique and Divine. The sky is so clear here. It gets a little chilly when it gets dark so you may want to bring a jacket. Once the setting sun morphs through all its wondrous phases ending its show by settling in its grand finale, the night sky gently falls over everything like a curtain as the lights thrill and ignite through the buildings of all the people safe, cheerful and Loved in their homes.
