One of the most accessible of the San Francisco batteries, and right next to Baker Beach! This is a really fun place to explore with the family. As a photographer, I really enjoy the play of light and shadow, as well as the geometry – I often bring my session clients here! Be cautious as folks have been robbed here for their camera equipment. Make sure there are people around and I would be very careful if you are lingering after dark.

It’s a very cool experience to stand behind one of these guns and look out over the beach and imagine enemy ships coming in and this gun trying to slow them down down. Good readings near to illustrate and show how this one worked. Beautiful beach and view of the bridge too!

Hidden place with lots of areas to explore. There’s a cannon but unfortunately it is currently covered up. It is accessible by car and has a great view of the ocean and the golden gate bridge.

Sham. NPS advertises that they have the only 6” disappearing gun left in the world… but it’s covered by canvas and looks like a giant heap of trash. Totally false advertising. What’s the point of even having the gun “on display” if it’s covered by a tarp? Plus, no signage telling when we can actually see it, and the rest of the battery is covered in graffiti. The parking lot is super busy too. This was a waste of time. The batteries closer to the bridge and away from Baker Beach were much more low-key. Can’t believe they have that unique gun just covered...

It's a very nice recreational use area next to Baker Beach with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Very popular place for photos. There are 2 parking lots nearby, but they may fill up during peak hours. Additional parking is available in the surrounding area. The SF MUNI 29 bus stops about a 10 minute walk away. This area is historic for the role it played in securing the Golden Gate. It's a great outdoors place to visit with paved and unpaved areas to hike and is not crowded. The clothing optional area of Baker...

Depending on the weather and time of day there are some really nice possibilities at the Battery at Baker Beach. On clear days there are great views if the bridge and of arid Marin County. You are on the pacific ocean — so the beach can have some great waves, meditative sounds to some to appreciate. In any weather the strolls are great for it is almost never busy. There is parking right there plus walks up the rocks to overlooks with really nice places to...
