I just moved to the area and was looking for a local place where I could meet new people and learn the Word.
I was praying to God about this very thing when He brought a vision of the church to my memory.
Excited at the recollection (I love it when God answers my prayers so quickly!), I hopped online to check out their mission statement (I needed to make certain the vision was from God, so one look at what the church believed would tell me), and I read that they believed everything I did (so, basically, the Apostle's and Nicene Creeds--nope, I'm not Catholic, but I went to Catholic school for half my educational career).
Anyway, it turned out the church was hosting a Women's Conference, and the speaker was someone by the name of Alisa Childers.
Considering her name's a derivative of mine, I took that as a further "sign" and went, asking God to, please, help me to meet people because I knew NO ONE (and being shy, going to this thing ALONE = not easy).
So I emailed the Women's Ministry to ask a couple questions and explained that I'm new and didn't know anyone. The head of the Ministry replied PERSONALLY and suggested we get together for coffee so that I could meet her and could go to the event not feeling all alone. (And I thought that was SUPER-kind of her!)
So I went to coffee and learned she was very kind. I went to the event and, just as prayed for, met many women and even made a new friend (a woman who attends the church).
And I also learned they have a women's Bible study night (or day), so I began attending that and have made even more friends with the women in my group. (One of them is even teaching me to knit...and then she's offered to teach me to crochet!)
So, do I recommend Hillside? Absolutely. If you're looking for a community of Believers who love the Lord with all their hearts and who take His Word to heart and try to live it out daily, then you've found it.
I don't attend church here Sundays (still going to my grandma’s church in our old city), but I would have no qualms switching if my grandma's church no longer needed me (or if they stopped preaching Jesus).
But I do recommend joining if your current church doesn't preach the Word and you find you're starved spiritually.
Hillside is a great church filled with godly people who will go out of their way to make you feel loved, accepted, and right at home.
Please consider attending Sunday services or maybe Bible study. (If you're a man, they have a Men's Ministry, too.)
Again, give them a try. You really have nothing to lose but EVERYTHING to gain (especially if you don't know Jesus--you'll meet Him here).
Oh, and Hillside has ministries that take its congregation out into the community where they get to know all people and can minister to their needs. If such a ministry is what you're looking for, go online and see how you can join.
May God bless you in your search for a spiritual home. (And Hillside could be just the home He has for you!)

Read moreI went there last Sunday 11am service and found this church to be very 'dark'... the 'worship' was a lot about Jesus's blood and dying versus hope, light, faith... NOT a good feeling or advice for a Sunday! The sermon was also quite dark versus being uplifting... I wanted to leave the entire time but stayed because my friend asked me to come...
But in ALL my life, traveling to 26 countries, living in 3, and attending various churches... this was the darkest sermon / vibe I ever felt... 😔
Jesus came to teach us about LOVE... about life and how to have it more ABUNDANTLY... he came so that we love each other, live in faith, become more Christlike... he didn't come so that we focus on his death or his blood... but his LESSONS... his TEACHINGS 🙏
I felt this church got it all wrong and instead of feeling better after church and uplifted, I felt horrible and just wanted to crawl into a hole.
If you desire a lighter church with a strong pastor, please check out Evergreen Valley Church or Jubilee Bridge church.
I do not work for these churches, I just want you to see that you have options and see for yourselves the stark contrast.
Thank you for...
