Read moreDO NOT BOOK THIS VENUE FOR YOUR WEDDING!!!!!! The day before our wedding, the rose garden informed us that they did not have staffing available for our wedding. We had reserved the fountain area at the garden and paid for staffing months in advance, following the directions on the website. The staffing was intended to help clear out the fountain area for our wedding ceremony. Instead the garden provided us a reservation sign and directed us to ask the public to leave ourselves. There were several groups of people attempting to set up gatherings at our reserved space at the time of the reservation. We asked them to leave. They were extremely rude, angry, and aggressive. They yelled at me (the bride) moments before I walked down the aisle. They called the police on us because we asked them to remove their decorations from our reserved ceremony space. The police did not care that we had a permit which showed that we had paid to reserve the fountain area. Honestly, don't book this unless you want to have people screaming at you before you take your vows. Worst of all, the garden told us that they could not supply staffing for our event because they had another wedding which needed staffing.... Even though we had already paid for it months in advance.
They refunded us the $50 for the staffing, but did not inform us that staffing was not available until the day before our wedding, at which point, it was too late to book...
Read moreThis is my favorite weekend hangout in San Jose. This rose garden is HUGE. One side of the fenced-in park is dedicated to the garden and the other side is a large grassy area where a lot of people work out and kids get to burn off their energy. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed, which is reasonable of course given the professional-grade garden but it would be nice to bring our Aussie along to enjoy the non-garden half. My fiance and I have spent hours at a time here. We bring lawn chairs or a blanket and a small cooler for snacks to camp out in the shade. Public restrooms are available and you'll enjoy watching ducks swim in the large central fountain. This is a popular spot for wedding and quinceanera photos, so you're bound to get a good look at some beautiful gowns. Professional photography must be approved first though. Volunteers occasionally visit the garden to regulate this. It's always fun to return to the garden since it looks different every time. Different roses bloom and rebloom at different times. You can also cross the street to the Egyptian museum to visit their public garden as well. There is also a restaurant and Starbucks nearby. Street parking around the garden is free, but if you live nearby, I would recommend walking. The Rose District neighborhood has some amazing architecture (my favorite are the storybook looking houses) with some rose bushes...
