Very small museum maintained by a few dedicated number of people. I don't know how the guided tours are, but I'd like to come back and hear how it's done. Going around this museum by myself, I can say is it's very cluttered. What that means is it's a treasure trove of historical artifacts, but if someone isn't in-tune with any of the history, and there are no tour guides, it's hard for outsiders to truly get deep with what the struggles were. As of right now, if no one is directly connected with this period of history, most of these things might look tacky. However, if they bring in a professional to help weave an overall story from start to finish, I think it'll help when you walk alone. Let's say with all the uniform items that are there, they should consult with the donors who gave them as well as retired US service members who served during that time. Because they can give you an idea of why those uniforms were the way they were, and how the US put its influence on them, so anyone joining the military will know, "Oh this is what we're fighting for." They had a section at the back with a bunch of DVDs, that I didn't know if they were offering for free, or if we had to pay and how much. But one of them, "The Last Days of SaiGon" was a really good documentary I watched together with my Mom, and she almost let some tiers come out at certain points. Overall though, I got a good sense of everything, and I'm glad I came. I still think they could do a better job with having information on-site. Some of the QR codes didn't work immediately, because I had bad data connection, but I'm sure I'm not...
Read moreThey need to update their hours on Google, but just for reference for everyone here: they open everyday from 10am-3pm. There is a parking lot but you have to pay $6. I ended up street parking off of Alma Street for free and walked over to the Viet Museum. Also just fyi it is located with other historical museum sites and the entrance is past the parking lot lol. The viet museum is great but when I went the 2nd floor was closed due to construction. Great place to learn more about the Vietnam war....
Read moreGood place to learn some history about the boat people of Vietnam. They really should organize it better with more a historical story line and some fact-checking to tell the true stories behind the exhibits as opposed to only looking at medals and uniforms. While it was nice, if you weren't raised in a Vietnamese family, you probably wouldn't know what the stories behind some of the...
