LA Fitness — Attraction in San Marcos

I am not one to write a bad review, however my recent experience with the management at LA Fitness San Marcos was absolutely horrible. I have two children at the kids club, they’ve been coming here for years. The women who have worked there in the mornings have recently been fired under reasons I cannot understand. They’ve always made me feel safe and comfortable leaving my children under their care and my kids grew very fond of them. With their dismissal, two new hires have started working there. I understand everyone starts off new however, I deeply feel that they were not properly trained and lack basic childcare skills. After I dropped off my kids, I decided to check in on them through the window and was shocked by what I saw. The two caretakers both had their backs turned on the rest of the kids focusing on the babies they were holding. One of my kids was hit on the head by a ball that the older kids were rough playing with while my son was being repeatedly hit in the face by another child. Despite their crying, they were completely neglected by the workers. I decided to take my kids home as they were clearly not being taken care of properly. As I was leaving, my daughter told me she forgot her doll so we headed back and I went inside simply to grab her toy and leave. When I turned back around the manager, Kimberly Eby, had her phone pointed towards me and then my children! She was either taking a video or photos of them as her flash was on. She told me in a very aggressive manner that I wasn’t allowed in there and if I needed something I had to let her know specifically. In that moment I was filled with anger because she was recording/photographing my children without any consent or reason. I decided not to respond and just grab my children and get out of there as fast as possible. I was furious that she would even think of recording me and my toddlers. I’ve been inside the kids club countless times without any issues. I wasn’t lounging around inside of there but rather picked up my daughters toy and turned right back. This is an experience I will never forget and want to make it known that the current manager is absolutely out of place with her actions and behavior. This particular location still operates with the same shiesty methods health gyms were notorious for.

Upon signing up , i was given the ol "let me call my manager" line. Where the sales representative makes a fictitious phone call, in order to make me feel like im getting a deal that no one else is getting, the reason i know this is cause i worked for LA Fitness in the year 2000 - 2002, where i was shown this outdated tactic.This was for me being waved a initiation fee of $25. The funny thing about that, I WAS STILL CHARGED $25, once they had my EFT information. So that was a dispute i had to file which got overturned once i showed i was being waved of that $25 in writing. ALWAYS GET THOSE DISCOUNTS OR PROMOTION PRICES IN WRITING!! The gym itself is okay, nothing different from the normal gym experience. CANCELING YOUR MEMBERSHIP is an issue with this club. They are STILL processing cancellations like it the year 2000. Gyms like 24 hour fitness, Crunch Fitness and most main stream commercial gyms have updated their cancellation policies to avoid the bad feedback they once would get. So those gyms now cancel immediately with a pro rate. Meaning if you were charged for the month, and you cancel 5 days into the new month of being billed, they refund you the remaining days left in the month and your membership is terminated immediately. This club needs 5 days before you cancel , in order to not charge you. And if they do charge you (which is like 99% of the time even with the 5 days notice) your membership is still active for that month, and you will be granted NO REFUND. Again if you are okay with a gym in 2018 , still operating as they did in year 2000, then sign up , just remember to buy some Tylenol, cause youre...

Good staff some reviewers claim updated equipment and clean club, this is a joke all old weight machines, all aerobic machines are outdated, decent free weight are but this gym is nasty.

Almost no members carry their own towel or wipe down the machines or bench after they have used it. 24 hour fittness is opposite. Every memerber has a towel and wipes d0wn the bench, yes they provide towels but it is the members who do the work. It's a totally different attiude.

There are a lot of old nasty dudes working out here with red bumps and scabs all over their bodies. That's even okay if they would simply carry towels and wipe down the equipment after they soak them down.

I have gotten infested with lice and crabs multiple times from working out here.

Their are paper towel dispensers but no disinfectant liquid on the main floor.

Upstairs for the aerobic machines have 2 foam dispensers. Free weight area 0

Weight machine area 0.

You would think the gym management would have some concern with hygiene in the club but none.

All the benches and every machine handle and all free weights in this club are sticky. Pick up any free weight plate like a 45 lb plate and notice how sticky it is. That stickiness is bacteria who knows what else.

They have cleaning staf at night 1 person who goes around and wipes everything down, totally worthless. The men's bathroom toilet area is totally disgusting urine puddles on the floor in.front of each urinal. The sink are isn't much better.

Yes if you ignore these issues you can get a good workout here but this is a HEALTH CLUB not supposed to make us sick.
