Was going here for over 2 years at $88 a month. Most respectable gyms (businesses in general) have distanced themselves from predatory cancellation policies. Unfortunately ymca still holds strong on their 30 day notice. They have the right, itâs in the contract. What they wonât have is many young people rejoining. If youâre older you probably are able to get the membership for free. These kinds of policies leaves you with a sour taste, and when times are tough economically for yourself it just feels like theyâre kicking you when youâre down. Tried explaining my situation, maybe Iâd be back in 4 months when things get better for myself, but unfortunately they only care about the money. Maybe itâll just be me, but I wonât be supporting the ymca unless policies change. To further the review, this places needs some serious renovations. Working out on a hot day? Forget about it, their AC is terrible. The open hours arenât great. They do have an incredible cleaning person, short Hispanic girl. If they lost her the place would be awful. Overall front desk seems overstaffed. Offices seem overstaffed. Literally close this place down and do a serious renovation. Itâs in a fantastic location....
Read moreThe San Mateo YMCA is a nice facility. The staff is very friend and the classes they offer are really good. The instructors are knowledgeable and vary their routines keeping the programs fresh and challenging. I can't say enough good things about the Fitness Instructor Kelly. She's been with the club a long time (decades) and well known and liked. Her positive and upbeat demeanor is one of a kind. She manages to skillfully keep everyone in her classes engaged by encouraging you to sing along to songs and her delightful sense of humor brings a smile to your face. The janitorial crew is amazing, it's the cleanest gym I've ever been to, better than the more costly clubs. The workout areas are well lit with natural light coming from the numerous windows and they have the ability to let fresh air in so you don't have to breath air conditioning like most gyms. I appreciate that they have a cellphone policy limiting members use of phones in the common areas. They have lots of programs for kids and are very family oriented. I highly...
Read moreFirst off HUGE shoutout to Jaspar and Ashley! They work at this YMCA and were so welcoming right when I walked into the gym. I came with a lot of questions about the gym and they were extremely patient and understanding. They told me about all the amenities and the open basketball times, so I can do drills.
The gym itself is a bit older but has all the basics you need to get a good workout. There were no âgym snobsâ and people were respectful on the equipment not taking forever, or on their phones. The basketball court is big and they have rotating group classes you can take to change up your workout routines! The locker rooms are clean and have modern code lock systems, so you donât need to bring your own lock AND they have towel service!! Most gyms took away clean towels, so thatâs a huge bonus. Lastly the pool and jacuzzi is cleaned every week, which makes you want to use them.
Iâve tried most of the gyms in the peninsula and the San Mateo YMCA is my favorite! I ended up joining as a member with Jasparâs help and couldnât be...
