We regularly attend the children’s museum. The staff has always been very friendly . While they have a lot of really great activities, there is a lot of room for improvement.
We used to love our experience here. Lately though it seems like they are taking many of the toys and activities away. For example, the cash register at the little market is gone. One of the big slides was removed and the big bubble maker was also recently removed. It seems like things are being taken away and nothing is being added. This museum could really use more gross motor activities, such as a climbing wall or ball pit. It could also really use a café!
The outdoor space is beautiful. Last year they had a variety of fruits and vegetables growing, which was very engaging for the kids, but this is also currently undergoing work so there are noisy stinky vehicles driving around in the back.
The plus side is that membership is very affordable... but I'd rather see prices go up so the museum would make improvements.
Overall a decent place to go with kids in Santa Fe but could be...
Read moreMy first visit was for the Gabby's Dollhouse event and while the event itself was nice, there was a significant safety hazard in the museum that failed to be addressed the the director, Hannah (I think that's her name). There is an area with a wooden slide and a mat with a cornered edge that my toddler tripped on, and hit her teeth right on the edge of the wooden slide. Her mouth was bleeding badly, and I brought it up with staff and even gave the suggestion that they use something like a cut pool noodle on the edge since I saw many other children tripping on the same mat during my visit. They assured me it would be taken care of, but the next time I visited, absolutely nothing had been done, and I continued to see kids tripping on the mat. Other parents there told me there were lots of tripping hazards such as the wooden bridge in the middle, but that you'd have to sue them for anything to be done about it. It's pretty sad, this place would have a lot of potential if management cared about the safety...
Read moreWhen we planned our vacation to NM, we found a "10 best" list for families with kids, and SF Children's Museum was on it. It said "for kids of all ages". The official Museum website said for kids up to 12. We brought 5 of our kids and paid $59 for all of us to enter. We left after 10 minutes. We were the last allowed to enter as they'd hit capacity, and there were several families with littles waiting, so we didn't mind leaving. This museum seemed to be a hit with all the pre-school and younger children. We don't give our kids phones and such, so they typically enjoy children's museums and science centers. Even our youngest, who is 8, was too old to really enjoy it. So we found an app that turned several city landmarks into a walking tour scavenger hunt, and we had tons of fun out in Sante Fe. I wouldn't recommend if your child is elementary aged and up. As far as the staff, all that we interacted with...
