Canned Ham Vintage — Attraction in Sarasota

I am from Alabama where Mardi Gras is widely celebrated (my husband and I are seasonal SRQ’ers). This year I was invited to the Gaieties Ball and needed a roaring twenties outfit. A dear friend of mine from Sarasota recommended I try Canned Ham for a dress. We drove down from the Lakewood Ranch area and upon arrival quickly knew I had hit the jackpot. The young lady working that morning, Marina, was amazing help! I told her exactly what I was looking for and she began pulling dresses for me. They had fabulous pieces to choose from. I ended up with the perfect dress, headpiece, handbag, earrings and a bracelet. We were short on time so we couldn’t “get lost” in the merchandise, but I’m excited to know about Canned Ham Vintage and look forward to going back. The shop is immaculate and chock full of a plethora of categories. There’s clothes of course (men’s too!) tons of jewelry, furnishings, art, decorative accessories, etc! I was REALLY looking forward to visiting this cool vintage shop! It looked like it had some unique and beautiful pieces when I walked in. A man and woman were standing there when I walked in. No hello, welcome to our shop or even a acknowledgment that I was there. I walked past them and she pulled the gentleman out of the way and continued her conversation something about ceiling tiles at 9 o'clock at nite. Still no hello. I continued to walk around and decided I'd give it a little longer to see if they addressed me. A girl came out of the stock room with dresses looked at me, continued to walk away didn't even say hello. If you cannot even acknowledge a customer with a aimple hello that tells me you do not value me as a patron. Lack of customer service is a turn off, a simple hello and smile is all it takes. Canned Ham Vintage is an absolute goldmine! If you get the chance to visit in person, go for it—but in the meantime, their online selection has an abundance of unique finds. I was thrilled to snag a last-minute 1970s/1980s Christian Dior blue nightgown set for a Rosemary’s Baby costume, and it was a total hit. Not to mention the piece was in BEAUTIFUL condition and looked even better in person.

Shoutout to Marina, who was an absolute gem on the phone. She went above and beyond to ensure my order arrived in time for my event, even amid it being their first day back since the hurricane. Sending all my best to them and other businesses in the area as they recover.
