People often ask me where to buy fresh seafood in Savannah. Russo's is the place I now recommend. I just made my first visit last week and I have been every day but one since. They have Red Snapper, Black Sea Bass ( A local favorite), Mackerel, Mahi-Mahi, and all manner of crab meat for soups. stews and cakes. I made the best crab cakes I have ever prepared with the lump crab meat I purchased. Russo's has a very 'local Savannah' feel to it. Its a no frills, all fish operation and you will probably see Mr. Russo himself working on your fish when you go. I haven't met him but Pete is a tremendous help. He literally walked me through their entire offering on my first visit and has come out to say hello to me, my wife, son and friends since we have been back. If caviar is your thing they even have sturgeon caviar (not the faux sushi salmon eggs). So if you want to try real caviar its $110 for 4 oz and $200 for 8 oz. Caviar isn't my thing but they have it is my point. They also have catfish filets, so there is something for everyone who likes seafood. The crab legs are not local and are frozen but thats about the only frozen thing there and even the frozen crab legs are large and good and much better than frozen chain-legs. Russo's has about 40 different kinds of fresh fish available and they will cut it to your liking while you wait or even call ahead- that's an amazing service you rarely see. I purchased 3 Red Snappers and 2 Black Sea Bass on my first visit- filet them and keep the heads. 10 minutes later I had fresh filet fish. If you want to try a Savannah seafood market then here...
Β Β Β Read moreWorst customer service experience ever!!! This is my first and last time ever coming to Russoβs Seafood in Savannah, Ga. The lady who took my order was very rude and impatient, I felt like I was inconveniencing her and all I was doing was asking simple questions like how much is the trout and sheepshead per pound, can you fry it for me if I wanted you too and do you have a menu for the restaurant. Her name was Shelly. She told me I could get it fried but I would have to wait almost an hour to get it cooked, she then asked me so do you want the seafood or not? I was very disturbed so I asked to speak to the owner. He acted like it was no big deal and then proceeded to go back to what he was originally doing. I guess he feels because of my color and that most of his clientele is Caucasian my complaint wonβt hurt his business. I truly didnβt feel valued as a customer, the only silver lining was the girl at the counter who saw all of this take place apologized for the actions of Shelly and tried her best to salvage the situation. I heard great things about this place, but my experience did not live up to my expectations. I waited for almost two hours for three pieces of cooked fish. I still paid for my food because of principle but they have truly lost a customer for life and I would never recommend anybody I know to experience the bad customer I...

It was gray looking and pieces were small. Upon opening the $17.99 one pound container there was a strong smell of sulfur. Made crabcakes. They were horrible. Donβt buy this crabmeat, it tastes nothing like US of America Atlantic Blue Crab, it is not good. Iβm confident everything else they sell must be great, but donβt be fooled by this crabmeat. If you want good crabmeat, I guess you have to catch them or buy them live and cook it and pick it yourself or buy it online from the Crab Place in Maryland, what I usually do. Been cooking and eating blue crab all my life, my family were Maryland watermen, I know good crab when I taste it. Get your other seafood at Russoβs but...
