Completely disappointed! I scheduled a tour for me and my students over 3 weeks ago. When we arrived for the tour they said they had us scheduled for the next week. I explained we make our schedules a month in advance, and that was an error because we have something already scheduled the next week. The staff called the director to see what could be done since it is clearly a mistake. She said we were not scheduled for today, and they could not accommodate us. Even though there was no other guest at the facility.
The director, Billie Stultz did not try to accommodate us. The only option given was to reschedule. This was clearly a mistake on the person that took our reservation; who conveniently was not there. We only had 4 adults and 14 special education students, but they could not accommodate us. A good director would have tried to accommodate us; specifically when we were the only ones at the museum at the time.
This facility schedule tours every 30 minutes to every hour, but they could not accommodate us. I believe that the director just didn’t want to accommodate us. Even if she had to lead us on a 30 minute tour, would have been better than just saying they could not accommodate us. This was truly unfortunate because me and my colleagues have been to the museum before, and I know that this tour would have been a great learning experience for our students. They were completely disappointed, and I certainly hope no other students will have to share the same...

During my recent visit to the African Art Museum, I was absolutely captivated by the rich tapestry of culture, history, and artistry on display. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was warmly greeted by the friendly and welcoming staff, whose genuine enthusiasm set the tone for a remarkable experience.
The museum’s collection is truly a treasure trove of African art. Each piece, whether it be intricate sculptures or vibrant textiles, tells a unique story that reflects the diversity and depth of African heritage. The curation of the exhibits is thoughtfully organized, guiding visitors through various regions and historical periods, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the continent’s artistic evolution.
What made my visit even more enriching was the presence of an informative tour guide. His passion for African art brought the exhibits to life, providing context and insight that enhanced my appreciation of each artifact. The guide’s ability to answer questions with ease made the tour both educational and enjoyable.
Overall, my experience at the African Art Museum was nothing short of wonderful. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone interested in art, culture, or history. The combination of an outstanding collection, an inviting atmosphere, and knowledgeable staff makes this museum a standout attraction that I will eagerly recommend to...
Read moreThis was a great find while visiting Savannah on a early Saturday morning. Make sure you check the time, they do have plenty of free parking. They are not far from the downtown area close to all the attractions. When I say beautiful and phenomenal, I mean you cant get any better than this free museum. There is a tip container close to the front door, its worth it! Savannah has a very large AAM population which is tied to the nation.
The docent is really knowledgeable and knows his stuff. I aint gonna lie I was in information overload...I love any museum that helps me have a better understanding of my history. You need at least 3hrs, I could have stayed longer, but time didn't permit. The staff was very helpful during my visit. The artifacts are from all over Africa. There was so much to see and read, I did take a few pics for memories and to share. There are two floors with quite a few rooms to wander around in with the guide. They do have a gift shop in another bldg. outside which has art room upstairs. I didn't have time but they were offering a free class the weekend I visited. I would check their website and Facebook page before you go for events.
I will most definitely visit again and spend longer. Yes, I highly recommend...
