-Updated- Went back for a second visit, pleasantly surprised at the improvement. Service was great. Our server was polite and friendly. Food quality improved. Many of the issues mentioned below have been remedied. There were several menu and price changes (mostly increases). I believe they are listening to feedback and making changes. I think they could push to have more local sources for their food. The owner did come over and say hello to us this time. It was brief but appreciated.
Overall, I’d really give them 3.5 stars but I think it has great potential to become a 5 star place.
-1st experience below- Disappointed. While the service was great, the menu lacks clarity on essentially all food items. When dining with someone with allergies it’s important to have greater descriptions of items than “pasta, red sauce, Parmesan.” We needed to ask for clarity on several items, even for people without allergies.
The owner was making rounds of the tables and blatantly ignored our table. He made two rounds of the other tables. Not sure if it’s because we don’t “look the part” or what? We are locals, to Savannah, and homeowners in Ardsley Park.
The starter plates, are minuscule. A note should be made that they are not very shareable. “Large Plates” is also a misnomer, I would describe them as medium plates.
The food was mostly tasty. Desert was excellent. Meatballs- slightly dry, but tasty sauce was oddly spicy Cheese plate- cheese was good, was expecting loquat not loquat jelly, almonds were coated in something strange Bacon plate- yum. My favorite thing we had, was simply bacon and maple syrup. Pasta by Frali- a thin red sauce coating some pasta, not exceptional Station Burger- bun was dry and tasteless, well cooked, but beef seasoned a bit strangely, fries were room temp and not hot when they came out. Caesar salad- 8 cubes of chicken for $5, dressing is a thin, oil based coating on...
Read moreThe restaurant is clean but the service was just ok. Our water frequently went empty without refills. The server was friendly but not very attentive. The person who brought us our appetizers kinda threw them on the table and walked away. Not the typical service experience like other places in Savannah where the service is generally warm and hospitable. Definitely didn’t get those vibes here.
The appetizers were very good. The fried green tomatoes were delicious- the jam, pickled onions, and sauce made my mouth water. A great balance of textures and flavors- sweet, salty, and bright acid with the fried tomatoes. Yummy! The deviled eggs were good as well…but it was only 3 egg halves. If you were ordering for a table of 4 people, I guess 2 of the people would only get 1\4 an egg?
Unfortunately the entrees didn’t meet expectations at all. The pork chop was overcooked, tough, bland, and under salted. The peach sauce with it was too sweet. The root vegetable hash was incredibly bland, cold, watery, lacked salt, and had little to no flavor. After a few bites I was done. I’m not sure why they didn’t sauté the root veggies to get some color, caramelization, and flavor on them. They tasted steamed and mushy. Not appetizing at all. An overcooked pork chop and bland cubed veggies for $35.
The tenderloin beef tips were also disappointing. They were tough and overcooked and not very tasty.
The entree prices were very high for the quality of food.
We took a family member to dinner with us who was visiting from out of town. Honestly, we were embarrassed by the quality of food and very disappointed with the overall experience. The bill was around $150 before tip for 2 appetizers (one of which was 3 half eggs), 3 entrees, and 1 glass wine.
With all the great restaurants in Savannah, Ardsley Station is one we won’t be returning to anytime soon. Ya’ll have to do...
Read moreWe found Ardsley Station to be overrated and overpriced. While the service was excellent, the food was not there. Parking: not easy to find after dark, not well marked, but free in this area. If you sit outside, understand that the traffic and the noise from the ambulances and trucks of the nearby fire station will punctuate your meal with regular racket. It's a bit much. Food: The filling of the devilled eggs appetizer was bland, spiced only by two small dabs of ground mustard and drizzle of sweet chilli sauce as plate decoration. Neither I nor my other half liked them. We also had BBQ "tacos" and a half chicken, roasted. The BBQ tacos were so tart and vinegary from the Carolina mustard barbecue sauce (which is NOT stipulated on the menu, else we would have passed) and the pickled vegetables atop the meat that they were almost inedible. Pickled vegetables and vinegary meat - no. And they were not authentic tacos, but flat, small hard-shell corn tortillas, meant for tostadas rather than tacos. If it was meant to be inventive, then it fell flat. The half chicken, while better than the tacos by far, was only good, not excellent, and for $28, it should have been a "wow" dish. Chicken was well-seasoned, but the white rice would have benefited from being boiled in chicken broth and some seasonings. There was some type of creamy sauce on it (but very little) which would have been better spooned over the collards than the rice, and indeed, the collards were supposed to be creamed, but were not. The root vegetables were very unevenly done, some were perfect, but most were undercooked. In a $28 meal, everything should be on point. Service: excellent, friendly and punctual. We didn't order dessert since the entrees didn't wow us enough to try anything from the three choices available. Too expensive for the experience....
