Just ate here tonight. This is one of, if not the, best restaurant meal I've ever had.
We started with the charcuterie board, the smoked ham on the charcuterie board was the best piece of ham I've ever eaten. A delicate smoked flavor with a tender hammy finish. Perfection.
Next we ordered the wings. I think for wings we all have a certain flavor profile we enjoy, I tend to enjoy hotter wings. These were very much a sweet bbq-esque wing, and even though that isn't my first choice I had no complaints. Where the wings really shined was the texture/mouth feel. These are the perfect chicken wing. When you imagine a chicken wing, this is what you are imagining. They were exquisite. C&R could discontinue the rest of their menu and open up a wing restaurant and make a killing. I've never had a better wing. They were crispy, sticky, sweet, and juicy. I would do unspeakable things for a spicy version of these wings.
Thank God though that they aren't just a wing place. My wife and I ordered the NY Strips with corn bread, Mac n cheese, and cheesy grits on the side.
The steaks, medium rare, had a nice sear and a tender interior. A very well cooked steak. The seasoning was on point, not overpowering but not undetectable. The aioli was out of this world. I have no idea what is in it, but it is the perfect accompaniment to steak. The fingerling potatoes were served with a brown butter, I think there was brown sugar and/or some cinnamon in it. Exquisite. For too many steak places the potato is an afterthought. These potatoes were crispy without being fried, with a delicate interior. The brown butter was an exceptional pairing.
The cornbread was another shining star of this meal. They list it as a rye cornbread. My only exposure to rye has been rye bread (the dark brown loaves at the grocery) which I am not a huge fan of. By this point in the meal this restaurant had my complete trust and since I love corn bread I threw caution to the wind and ordered their rye corn bread. Zero regrets. The rye provided a delicious snappy bread note at the end of a rich bite of corn bread. The honey butter, again, was an exceptional accompaniment.
The cheesy grits and Mac and cheese were both very good, a solid rendition of southern staples. But by now I have exhausted both my fingers and I'm sure my audience. So I will end here.
Cotton and Rye is truly exceptional. Not a bad bite. Not a detail forgotten. Care and thought in every element.
Our server Patrick was very friendly and helpful. 10/10...
Read moreMy husband and I were looking for a nice place to have a meal for our first wedding anniversary. We love to watch cooking shows and cook on our own time and we barely go out to eat so finding a good place for this night was pretty important so we could both relax, get a little dressed up, and experience a good meal tasting that inspires and gets us out of that cooking rut. Cotton and rye is perrrrrfect! It’s ambiance is swanky enough to get dressed up but also be comfortable and as a business owner myself, I really appreciated the personal touches with branding and the design of the layout from the environment to the plates to the takeout boxes. Everything was tied together perfectly. Aesthetically the dishes are gorgeous. Okay THE FOOD! We started with a chicken Caesar that had fresh hints of lemon on each lettuce leaf bite and it was brightening on the pallet! The waitress made sure to ask us how we felt about the anchovies before ordering the salad which I assume maybe people have brought up concerns about it in the past but I personally liked them, fish is hearty in omega 3s and these little friends were served up with salt and lemon which complimented the salad, a good addition of protein for a classic appetizer salad and a different twist! Entrees! Oh my gosh. I had the fried chicken thighs and it was a southern comfort charm with a TWIST. The dipping sauces like the hot honey almost has floral hints which I love and the ranch that was like a dilly aeoli (I’m a huge fan!) with the warm crispyness of the chicken skin had me in heaven. The chicken was served next to house pickles that you could tell the person making that brine had every intention of making metaphorical love to the diner’s taste buds because their pickles were BANGING and complimented the chicken that they also brined with that same pickle juice to marry all those flavors together 🥰😭 my hubby has the oyster mushroom ru which I taste tested and found it was sooo savory and perfect for mushroom fans! My husband likes to forage for oysters and other rare edible fungi so we thought this was a savory inspiration! We finished it allllll up with the strawberry olive oil cake and a dessert cocktail to share and I wish I could get a whole tub of that peach cream cheese shantilly icing they used on that cake because it was light and so airy and probably what God uses as clouds in heaven. We’ll be back 😭🥰👏🏼👏🏼 Our servers were super sweet and bubbly and hyped up our dining experience! Absolutely...
Read moreI came here for a celebration with my guests. For those of us that ordered the chicken, the chicken was raw and when they brought it back it was the same chicken that had been sent back so it was just re-fried --I know this because I had cut it, which is how we noticed it was raw. I have eaten in high end restaurants all the way to street food places, and I have never been brought back the same chicken that I cut opened and was raw, back re-cooked. Would like to mention it was not busy when we went, it did get busy when we were leaving though. Really disappointing as all the reviews were mentioning great service and great food, so I thought we would have a good time as we were celebrating. Also for the price you are paying I would've thought we would get better service as far as the food. I know we are humans and raw chicken can happen, which is why I cut my chicken in the middle--what made it disappointing for me was how the situation was handled. The whole tray was taken and the ones with chicken were left with nothing as the rest of our table had their food. Nothing was said to remedy the situation as it was all the fried chickens in the table that were raw, just refrying it, not even compting the drinks or giving some bread to the ones waiting. Our waiter then asked if everything was okay once we got the re-fried chicken as if raw chicken had not been dangerous (which is written in their menu) --maybe they didn't mean it in that way but it came across this way, giving the benefit of the doubt though--they didn't revisit us again until we made the sign to pay, so customer service really needs to be worked on. I really don't like complaining or giving bad reviews, but I honestly think you can get just as good of a fried chicken at a fast food restaurant with better price and service. I would not visit again. If you do visit then I recommended cutting the chicken in the middle and checking that it is cooked all the way. The Mac and cheese that comes with the chicken is over powered by the mustard so it's not really cheesy flavor --this would depend on taste buds though. My guests that got steak were happy with their plates though. They do have free parking, it's a small lot but a good...
