Best. Library. Ever.
At least in my lifetime. I love coming here. It is something like the 2nd biggest library in the midwest, or in the nation, or something awesome like that.
I find myself here frequently, they have an amazing selection of books (obviously, duh, it's a library, and a HUGE one at that), movies (both DVDs & BluRay) a ton of tv show series on dvd, so incase you don't have internet or Netflix, you can get your tv show binge watch fix from borrowing from here.
They have an insanely awesome limit to borrowed items, I think it is something like 80? That's stellar. They're so trusting! 80 items! Whooaaahh!
They also will lend you video games, they have quite the inventory, accessories and all! We borrowed a singing game, which came with a microphone any everything, I thought that was pretty cool.
They have free WiFi, and tons of space for you to stay for hours using it.
They offer two stories of books, movies, play areas with magical enchanted forest for the kiddies, a pretty schweet remodeled teen area upstairs... I honestly wish I were still a teen to use their tons of cool resources in there... I tried... kinda.. and was shunned and looked at like a weirdo...sorry, I'm not this mature adult, I am still a young adult, who feels like I could fit better in there, than with the wise mature adults...and it looks really cool, so I wanted to be there... They also have loads of private meeting rooms lining the perimeter of the 2nd floor, tons of computers (both PC & MAC), with a new-ish option to rent a MacBook PRO within the library for 2 hours for us plebs who cannot afford such technology...and goodness gracious they have just about everything you could want here...there is even a coffee shop that does sandwiches and snacks too, within the entrance. They offer classes and guidance here too! The possibilities are endless here, and since we moved out of state, this place has been somewhat of a 2nd home for us, comforting and welcoming. I really enjoy the fireplace sitting area in the adult fiction book section on the first floor near the entrances, it's very cozy and inviting. They have comfy chairs, next to ample amounts of outlets for charging my slue of electronics, and a little flip up table/desk thing incase you want to work in the comfy chair and need a hard surface in front of you. I find myself wandering in here to hang out sometimes, especially now that the weather is getting chillier, and when I ride my bike here to pick up my holds, I will warm up hanging out in front of the fire before setting out again.
Their reserves department must be working 24/7/365 because honestly they are shelving everything you put a hold on, and sometimes it comes from an inter-library loan, or you can suggest a purchase, and everything I have suggested, they have gotten for me (within reason of course). They are so great here, so accommodating and helpful...
This has to be one of my favorite places to hang out in Schaumburg...The possibilities are endless! You can come here to escape the hustle and bustle of work, school, crazy life...and pick up a book...or 80...sit and enjoy reading it here, and dive into a whole new world, or pop over to use their internet with or without your own computer. If you borrow/sit using one of their computers there is a time limit I do believe... it is around 2 hours or something, but they are pretty reasonable here. I really love this place...
Definitely worth a stop by to explore and get your library card...take a class...rent a movie, or entire seasons of TV shows, or borrow like 80 books...swing on by you won't regret it.
This place is AWESOME!
Oh, I also recently saw that they have electric scooters now available for those who need the assistance. Just have to ask the Check-in Desk for details!

Read moreI’m going to full on just quote a previous review here by someone as the situation is still the same. They have NOT done anything nor have they even tried to resolve the very minute issues!
“Libraries need a quiet area for adults who need to study. They used to have a quiet room and they turned that into an office or something. The second floor needs a quiet zone. Somewhere that does not tolerate (Cell phone calls, loud conversations, loud reshelving, or parents bringing kids and letting them loose like if it was the mall). Also, they replaced the chairs with some of the hardest plastic type of material possible, very cheap seats and tables like if it was from Ikea or something. This library is huge and has potential. Its kid and teen and elderly friendly, but they really need a quiet are where noise is not tolerated. The study rooms help but they are only available for 2 hours. Not good for those studying in grad school or for college. We need longer hours to study in silence. It does not help to have shelves in the middle of the tables where people constantly brush up against you with their strollers or kids while you are trying to focus. Why did you ever get rid of that quiet room? We had a good thing going back then. Now there is no real quiet area and if there is, security guards are nowhere to be found. I have to constantly tell the reference desk to please tell others to keep it quiet. Some people are not self aware and have full blown conversations on their cell phones in the middle of the second floor for everyone to listen. Big building but poorly run for adults trying to focus.
Follow up: Thank you for the prompt reply. Yes please share the feedback with the appropriate staff. It really would be good to see a designated quiet zone at your branch. It will really help and I am positive your building has the proper space for it. With the right planning it would really make your branch more inclusive for those who need that focus and quiet to get...
Read moreWhile aesthetically pleasing, I still found Schaumburg Library's resources to be lacking, compared to the other libraries in its area. They have a nice fireplace in the fiction area, an expansive make-believe forest in the kids area, and a super fancy bathroom by the front entrance. However, toys are all put away while Palatine, Arlington Heights, Dundee, Itsaca, Mount Prospect had a small amount available. Also, the kids' bathrooms are not kid-friendly: there are no stools for washing hands or low toilet seats. The checkout has all hands on deck, including their self checkout station, and you rarely see a line. The clerks are somewhat friendly, but they get the job done, eventually, and some are super nosy and loud about what you are checking out. The media, DVDs and games section is pretty big, but I feel like it eats into the kids' section. The children's picture books only have a couple of organized genre sections (I think it was just four rows). The rest are alphabetized by the author. I find Wood Dale and Morton Grove to have organized genres that help parents find books easier. As for the programs, all the libraries in the surrounding area went to in-person, and Schaumburg is still doing a lot of virtual ones. It doesn't have a lot of make-and-take available. It's always out of available spots. And they don't have a lot of technology. Poplar Creek has laminators, sewing machines, and rug cleaners. Arlington Heights and Palatine has sewing machines, cricut and heat press. Schaumburg only...
