I stopped by today for two scoops of ice cream for my kids. The girl at the register was yawning and expressing how tired she was. (Totally unprofessional). She finally got around to taking my order. I ordered one scoop of birthday cake and another scoop of the new berry flavor they have. I sat there for 12 minutes for two scoops of ice cream. A group of six came in after me, and behind them there was a group of four, and behind them there was a group of two. Everyone got their ice cream served. While I sat there and none of the workers there said a word to me. I finally asked how much longer it would be for my order, and a girl from the back said that she would check on it for me. She went to the girl who took my order, and that girl said that she wasn't sure what happened because I paid. I went up to the front and just asked for a refund because, at this point, it just didn't make sense to me that I should continue to wait any longer for just two scoops. After asking for a refund, the girl who took my order yelled for Sarah," asking the manager to come and give me a refund. Sarah, the manager, came and didn't even acknowledge me. I asked, "Does it normally take this long?" and she completely ignored me. She only asked me one question, which was whether I would like my refund in cash or back on my card.
I have been going to Oberweis for years and have never had a problem with anything. Everything has always been okay for my family and me. I will never spend a dollar at this place again because this wasn't about the ice cream. Every customer who came in after me and before me was white, and I was the only black person in the building. No one got treated the way I was treated, and I feel that they are very racist because how could my two scoops of ice cream not show up while everything for everyone else showed up? If it's a problem to sell to or take orders from black people, you should post a sign that says for whites only. It's a shame that in 2023, this is still an issue that we have to deal with. I'm so happy my kids weren't there to see and feel what being treated differently feels like.

Read moreFor starters, this location has never been decent with customer service nor fast service, but this is the WORST service i have received to DATE since the coronavirus quarantining began. Oberweis in Schaumburg has a curbside ordering and pick up service available to those who do not want to enter the store to order and wait for their ice cream. Since i have my 4 year old daughter with me, i decide to call to order and have them bring the ice cream to the car. When i called the first time, A woman answered the phone and asked me if she could place me on a brief hold that would take no more than two minutes. I waited 10 minutes before hanging up and ringing them again. I call a second time, One of the managers, either Zeke or Tyler (i dont know which one because they never identified themselves nor ever pick up the phone after putting me on hold) , did not even greet me when they answered the phone, and i once AGAIN am put on hold. this time i waited over 10 minutes and mind you, i STILL had yet to PLACE MY ORDER. I got sick of waiting on hold so I hung up and called one more time and I believe the same young lady that answered the phone the first time picked up again and I asked her for the managers names to write this review. There were other customers walking in and out of the shop with their ice cream, while im still on hold, waiting to place my order for my daughter. There are multiple other restaurants in the area who also have curbside ordering and pick up who never place me on hold and take my order right away. Why is it that those of us who do NOT want to come into the store, get Served last? It should be first come first serve, but yet they only want to serve those right away if they are showing up in the store lol. If you can't keep up because of the coronavirus, then don't do curbside pick up and ordering. As we walked in last night a gentleman was washing the windows, I greeted him, instead of the other way around without getting any response from him, no issue, must’ve not heard me, gave him the benefit of the doubt. We walk up to place our order, there’s a young girl and young man, (same one who was cleaning the windows earlier), at the register, they see us waiting, they look at us but don’t say a word, no eye contact, no smile, as if neither of them want to be bothered by us. I felt unwelcome and invisible. I waited a minute to see if they were occupied but they still glanced in far distance as if they don’t see us as we’re standing right in front of the register. I said, we’re ready to order not sure who’s going to take our order and the young man says yes I can take your order, the young girl leaves after shrugging her shoulders. He halfheartedly takes our order, doesn’t thank us again, no problem. The young girl who brought us our order out was nice and placed our order on the table and said enjoy. Our waffles were missing, no one brought us the waffles out, we grabbed them on our own, as we were halfway done with our ice cream. Upon leaving same young man was cleaning the windows, he doesn’t say anything to us, I thank him and not one response from him again! Never returning to this establishment again!
