Jose Rizal bridge leads out of ID/Chinatown on 12th Ave into the bottom of Beacon Hill. The park is on the right fork by kingdom hospital/PacMed bldg. The one thing this place is popular for is the breathtaking views of the city and sound. Come here on a clear day sound, mountains, city, sunset. The main portion of the park is at an incline and has cliffs without protection so be carefu and awarel. The disabled parking is at the top south end. The restrooms are ghetto but adequate and clean. One way padlocked needle disposal for the junkies. The gazebo needs repair. I'm assuming there used to be a few fireplaces at one time, the ceiling/flashing is rusty, the wood is old near rot, the new wood has graffiti on it. The kids playground is just after that. Little bit of a grassy area and play structure. There is an interesting stone mosaic sculpture in that section also. The landscape up top was pretty minus the gigantic dandelion trying to overtake the garden. I stepped 5 feet into the dog park and came back out. It was muddy and there were big piles of old poop mixing in the area. Nope nope not for us. The dog park is not handicapped animal friendly nor handicapped owner friendly. Stairs. I was thinking about taking the stairs slowly and having Jack roll down in his cart to the side of it but the narrowness and incline was too risky. Then just before the gazebo there are stairs leading to another section of the park with lots of well maintained grass etc. It looked very inviting and I wanted to go but without some kind of handrail we couldn't make the trek. It was like a tease. Let's put the handicapped parking right by the stairs to the beautiful area. Oops can't get down there sorry! Or you very slowly and finally make it down there but now you're stuck! How putting in a winding path? This park has alot of potential. It needs repair, upkeep, improvement, updating, and to be...
Read moreAs a photographer, I'm giving this place a 1 star for being a very unsafe area during the mid day on a Friday. I went to the middle section of the bridge to take some practice shots of the cityscape and walked to the south end of the bridge for more snaps. As I walked closer to the south end, that's were a shady guy/homeless man/delusional guy behind me threw a cast iron pan hitting the ground just inches away from me. He was yelling at me thinking that I was taking pictures of him like a nosey news reporter or something, and not to post it. He kept approaching me verbally abusing me wanting to fight, but I kept backing up and not saying much for safe distance and being sure not to be boxed in. I kept walking South on an incline of 12th st hoping I can enter a medical clinic which I did. It was a scary situation and very traumatizing. As a photographer, this is a great spot for night photography, but I will stop by again, but with protection this time. So, please dont come here alone. Bring someone with you and have an escape plan. Just sayin...for...
Read moreToday was my last day to visit the off leash dog park @ Jose Rizal. The steps from the street to the trail gate entrance is now a super-highway for the homeless, who have moved back into the woods just below the park. They have broken the latches on all 5 gates and I have seen dogs escape from the park this week 6/16/17, 6/19/17. Today, a homeless man carried 2 mattresses down the steps and over the broken-down fence, over the trail and into the woods. On these last 2 visits, I have seen 2 different men, stripped down to their underwear, bathing at the water faucet. On 6/16/17, there was a homeless man sleeping in a bushy area inside of the dog park itself; one of the dogs was barking at him so he got up and left. It appears the the homeless are taking over this area quickly. It's no longer safe for your dog (gates not secureable) and a person's safety may also be at risk. Be very...
