New ownership = Much lower quality of food.
The food is terrible in comparison to what it used to be.
When this was SunYa, for many years I would come from Bothell a few times a month. I had tried most of the items on both the dinner and dim sum menus. It was high quality food, which I gladly paid a premium for. They had just about a WHOLE oceans array of live seafood in the live tanks. The Warm BBQ Pork was out of this world. Amazing flavor, warm, moist, tender omg. The dim sum was pretty good (better than most) SunYa was 5 stars in every way.
The new place "Ocean Star" has a few of the same staff. I understand Asian culture so I'm not put off by "aloof" attitudes. They get stuff done in a timely manor with respect. Great no issues there...
The Bar is great, and pour good drinks.
The food is terrible in comparison. Ok to marginal in "todays standards". Everywhere I go, restaurants are going cheep, dropping menu items, probably because of market force. Ie: high rents, high staffing costs, stratospheric TAXES... But my God the quality of food is abysmal.
I have tried about 10 times since the new ownership and name. Last night was the final time. Spent 120.00 and left unsatisfied. The biggest let down was the "Chinese Steak" which was apox 10oz of cut up beef squares in some horrible orange sauce. It was some kind of LOW quality Chewy roast cut. We had to ask for steak knives to cut it into tiny pieces so we could chew it... We ended up giving up and left most of that 15 dollar plate untouched. Sad we'll have to search for another chinese /...
Read moreIt's the worst "non-dining" experience I've had in many years! We loved the lobster at this place, and have ordered lobster takeout several times since the pandemic started. Today we wanted to dine in, so we came at around 7:45pm. There were six or seven tables at the dining area. The low-energy hostess (probably the owner's daughter) showed us a table where the immediate tables were all occupied. Given they had 30+ tables in the dining area, we didn't feel especially comfortable sitting so close to other tables during a pandemic, so we asked politely if we could switch tables. They didn't seem annoyed and showed us a different table. So we sat down, and that was the end of our night there. They never came by to take our orders, even though they passed by our table 10+ times. After sitting there for ten minutes without successfully grabbing their attention, I set a timer on my phone for another ten minutes and stopped trying to grab the waitress (whom we found out to be the owner later). Of course, they kept ignoring us, so we had to walk out at that point. One more thing: there were two white ladies who came in several minutes after us, and their order got placed immediately after they sat down. I don't want to jump to any conclusion, but I'm definitely not going back here, where Asians are ignored. You have lost my lobster business forever (or maybe until the next owner takes over),...
Read moreHad the WORST experience here of just about any Dim Sum place we've gone as a family. Can't wait till Purple Dot is done with their remodel and opens up again. My son bit into the Su Mai and the pork had gone bad. We usually enjoy that dish but again, we were NOT at Purple Dot where we usually eat Dim Sum. Some of the other dishes were also " sub-par ". We elected NOT to get the additional Su Mai that they were cooking in the kitchen because we had no idea that the pork in some of these was BAD. When I asked about why the other one had been marked on the tally sheet of orders, our hostess indicated she hadn't placed that order for us yet. When I asked why it was marked on the sheet she stated she hadn't marked it, yet my entire family and I saw and heard her tell us she was marking it all so it would be done (marked) already. When at the end of a sub-par meal, our son whom had offered to foot the bill, in disgust elected NOT to tip because the Su Mai tasted bad, the host chased us into the street to ask my son WHY he didn't tip. Tips are not mandatory and we tip ONLY when both the food and the service are good. He said to my son "are you kidding me? You're really bad" he stated.. So if you want your tastebuds AND your person ASSAULTED..go ahead, otherwise eat at ANY other place for Dim Sum OTHER...
