After a long-awaited reprogramming, Fable has reopened, and I stopped by for a coffee and a midday snack.
While it's great to see the space active again, the new layout feels less inviting than before—especially with the bar-height tables awkwardly positioned near the register, creating a bit of a traffic bottleneck. There are also less tables with power available to them.
They're still in the midst of a soft opening, so some growing pains are understandable. That said, the current pared-down menu has me missing the variety and comfort of the previous offerings.
Perhaps most noticeably, the familiar faces that once brought warmth and personality to the space are no longer there—which makes the return feel a little less like coming home.
08/'24 Fable is a hidden gem in the heart of Beacon Hill, and it's my home away from home!
It has been my go-to coffee spot in the past few months. They have a wide array of food, more so for brunch folks, catered to more Western cuisine. Their lunch and dinner menu rotates occasionally, adding variety to the flavor.
They have the most welcoming and warm staff. It has made it my go-to lounging spot as it is also one of the few cafes that stays open until late evening.
The space offers a modern, sleek vibe that you can let loose. More than anything, they typically have a killer music...
Read moreI came here to plug in for a few hours one Sunday and loved it! They have a very lovable seasonal drink menu and the pastry case looked great. They also have breakfast and lunch bites, with lighter and heavier options that change by season. I had their smoked salmon tartine -- super good flavors (loved the touch of olive oil), fresh salmon, high-quality bread, large portion, and excellent overall. I also had their autumn latte (half sweet with oat milk) -- the espresso was good quality and the spices came through, even though it was half sweet (full sweet probably wouldn't be overwhelming for most people, I'm just not a sweet drink person, so I tend to be cautious when ordering drinks like that). They have WiFi, a couple of outlets, and indoor and outdoor seating. I'd say the vibe is slightly more suitable to socialize or have a quick bite, but people sitting at the bar were plugged in for a while. Oh, and they have plenty of wine bottles on display, so there's lots to explore here! I'm thinking you'll find something to love...

The service was incredible. All of the staff’s recommendations on wines were so well curated to our requests. Not to mention their small bites were delightful. They have a playful menu including bold cheeses, buttery breads, and refreshing salads. Staff filled our waters frequently and checked on our appetites throughout the night in an organic way.
Their playlist was a hit and provided an engaging musical backdrop to our evening.
We initially started the night here with a tasting and left with full bellies and a few bottles. You can tell their relationships with vendors and distributors are meaningful. We...
