I'm on my fourth year of membership at Longshot and I love shooting here. It's never a question if I'm going to renew my membership. I go anywhere from once to four times a week. My kids learned to shoot here. The facilities are clean (including the bathrooms), the classes are well run and the staff put safety as their first priority which is exactly how it should be. I appreciate the diversity of the staff and the clientele, and as a person of color, I feel welcome and represented here.
I've gone from being a beginner shooter to a certified firearms instructor all with help from the people here. Whether it's a basic class or an advanced tactical class, I found the classes to be fun, safe and well run.
The best part, I feel, are the people. Over the years, I've gotten to know many of the great staff who work here. Sometimes, you'll find Kevin, the owner, behind the counter, who is always happy to stop and chat and laugh. Or maybe Garret or Becca are behind the counter, always ready to help.
Omar is my sensei of shooting technique and Jose my guru. Both these gentlemen hold deep reservoirs of shooting knowledge and every time I leave, I feel like I've either learned something or gotten useful advice on something to work on.
I brought my sisters here for their first time at a shooting range, and Jose ran their initial training. He was funny, helpful and clear. He knew how to calm their nervous energy well. They loved him! His years as an instructor and teacher show through in how he teaches.
Dave is the one who cheers for me every time I have to shoot a qualification. Tommy's the grizzled ex-cop with as many stories as years and always admonishing you to "tighten it up!" Nick taught my kids to shoot and remembers them and asks how they're doing whenever he sees me. Serhii, the experienced European military veteran lights up when you ask him about competitive shooting and when he gives you a suggestion on technique, you should take it. That man can head-shot Washington on a $1 dollar bill at 25 yards. So can Nick. And Brandon. Mike, "The Chief" is always ready with a warm handshake and there's Pete, always with some good conversation and a story about his kid. Maurizio, too, his calm presence always there during my range appointments. You should listen to all of them. The list goes on.
I notice some negative reviews specifically having to do with negative experiences with the Range Safety Officers. What I will say is that I think people don't realize that the RSOs are not service personnel first - they are safety officers first, and primarily there to ensure the safety of everyone there. Trust me - I don't work there, but I've done the RSO training course.
Sure, they are there to help you, but there are many ways to endanger yourself or others at a shooting range, and they will be stern if you are not acting safely and are are even trained to touch you to redirect an errant firearm if they see that it is about to be pointed in the wrong direction (anywhere other than downrange). The possible implications of a firearm accident are too dire to take chances and the rest of us are all watching to make sure they are putting safety first as well. From what I see, they do. To me, that's worth 5 Stars on its own. After all, I bring my...
Read moreTERRIBLE EXPERIENCE but the sign in process was simple. They had a video and had an instructor show weapon safety. That got my hopes up as to what it would be at the range. The shooting bay is well ventilated and air conditioned. Everyone asked us if we had ever shot a gun before. Answer is a few times and none. This is our first time here, and we are just following along with the process. Asking questions and trying to stay safe and have a good time. When we asked about their rental and package deals, the man at the counter got visibly annoyed. I looked at their website before going, and all I did was ask questions that I could not find online. Their online website had package deals (reason I went) that weren't available at the time. The guy at the counter got annoyed with every question I asked. I asked to see a weapon to see if it was a good fit for us. He did not like that I wanted to try other ones. He knew it was our first time shooting. So we ended up with a weapon that we found very uncomfortable to use. When we got to the shooting bay, the instructor asked if we had ever shot a gun before. Yes and no. Then he loaded our magazines. Ask who is going to shoot. We were for force fed our ammo and shot 100 rounds in 20 minutes. Not even giving us " advice" or letting us actually inspect our shots. As soon as one mag ran out, he shoved us out the way and asked who was next. From the times that I have gone to a range, I have never shot in less than 40...

Great overall experience. I love this place. RSOs, educators & gun shop are excellent. Gun shop has an excellent selection of NJ legal guns & will order unavailable display guns as requested by purchaser.
I’ve been coming here since acquiring my first permit & have not needed to seek out any other range/shop. Convenient to get to from my current location. Excellent selection of weapons to rent try/shoot prior to purchasing.
MY first time here I opted for the 3 gun rental of $75 to see get a feel of what is best for my intentions of self-defense. Tried the Canik, Glock & Smith & Wesson MP. Liked the Glock 17 best, which was unavailable for immediate purchase. I was offered the 47 for a similar price, which I prefer due to its newness (Gen 5) & utilization by Border Patrol & parts swap-ability.
Great gun shop & range RSO staff. The RSOs are well experienced & very approachable. They’ve recommended various techniques & accessories to help improve my familiarity & accuracy. Can’t say enough about how great these guys are & how much they’ve helped me improve my accuracy & comfort with my weapons.
I also won a Glock 49 in their GSSF competition raffle. Good stuff. Stay sharp & safe shooting
I've taken the beginners' pistol class (which I also highly recommend) & will pursue my concealed carry (CCW), when I feel that I need it and am ready to move to...
