I've never written a review before, but I am so disappointed about my experience that I feel compelled to share. I took my diamond solitaire engagement ring in to be repronged. At the time, I asked about the ring's thinning shank with the younger lady at the counter. She asked the jeweler, who said that we could replace the shank later, but it had a little more life in it. When I picked up the ring, the sales clerk mentioned that they "put a bead" on the shank to shore it up. A few days after wearing the ring, my finger began to swell. Every morning it was stiff and I couldn't bend it. This only happened to the finger with the repronged ring. I had never had this happen before. After a few weeks of pain, I went back to the jewelers. They said that they hadn't done anything to the ring to cause this, and that I must have gained weight. Given the fact that this was only happening on one finger, and I could wear all of my other rings with no problem, I thought this was ludicrous, but I agreed to have the ring resized. By this time, my finger was so swollen that they had to cut off the engagement ring, as well as my wedding ring, which hadn't left my finger since my wedding. They charged me for the resizing of both rings, even though I'd never had a problem with the ring before the repronging. Now the resized ring is much too big, and I rarely wear it due to the fact that it almost falls off my finger. I recently took the ring into another jeweler. They showed me with their magnifying tool that the new prongs were pitted with enormous holes. They said that this was due to the fact that Seguin Jewelers used cheap gold plating, and that I would have to get the ring redone again sometime in the future. I now realize that I spent well over $300 at Seguin Jewelers for both an inferior job AND for additional work that was surely due to something they did to the ring that I now cannot wear until I spend MORE money at a better jeweler. Although I strive to use local businesses, I do NOT recommend...
Read moreI noticed a smudgy looking film all over the top of my gemstone once I got home after picking up the ring it’s set in from having the prongs retipped here. I thought it was likely just due to it being dirty from being worked on. But when I tried to clean off the stone, the film didn’t budge. Tried several times, different ways, before realizing it was permanently affixed to the surface. I’ve since learned that the heat from the torch and firecoat created smudgy, circular areas of film all over the table surface of the stone which cannot be removed! I’d think twice about having work done here on unheated gemstone jewelry since they don’t seem to be very knowledgeable about gemstones or the extra steps required to work on jewelry containing the...
Read moreMy mom always used Seguin Jewelry for her needs and they kept her wedding ring beautiful for many years. After she passed I was gifted the ring from my father and it’s my most precious possession. I trust this family owned store with all my pieces now. They have cleaned, restored, resized and repaired many of my moms rings that I can wear now. They check my wedding rings every year and make sure everything is in good shape! I will be a forever customer. Recently they replaced a fire opal in a ring my dad bought for my mom in Greece. He wasn’t sure if they could find a match but they did great work and...
