EDITED TO REPLY: I appreciate your taking the time to respond, but I must respectfully disagree with your characterization of events.
At no point did my husband take an inappropriate photo of a staff member. He took a photo of me, at my request, during our visit. A waitress happened to walk into the frame. When told to delete it, he immediately complied and showed the waitress his phone as proof. Another bartender lied and said he'd done the same thing the week before, which is patently false (and our fellow patrons can corroborate). For staff to misinterpret this and accuse him of inappropriate behavior is deeply troubling.
Your reply suggests that the cameras were reviewed, yet you still stand by an inaccurate accusation. If video exists, it should confirm that the photo was of me and not of staff. In addition, your video will also show the bartender and general manager yelling in my face (for some odd reason-- what did I do wrong? Ask to have my picture taken?) about fifteen minutes later. To dismiss our experience while making serious claims about my husband’s behavior is not only inaccurate but unfair.
We agree with you that a safe and respectful environment for staff and guests is essential. However, respectful treatment should extend to all patrons as well. Being falsely accused, asked to leave, and then banned without cause was an embarrassing and hurtful experience for us.
Our hope in sharing this was not to argue, but to highlight how important it is for concerns to be addressed with fairness, accuracy, and respect on both sides.
ORIGINAL: My husband and I visited 1916 recently. While trying to enjoy our evening, he took a quick photo of me, his wife of 20 years (that I asked him to take). When a waitress told him to delete the photo, he immediately showed her the phone and deleted the photo, apologizing. A staff member accused him of repeatedly violating a photo policy (which was not true) and asked us to leave. We were then informed by the general manager we are banned from returning. This was embarrassing and upsetting, especially since no policy had been communicated to us. If a no-photo policy exists, it would be helpful for management to make it clear to patrons without resorting to false accusations. We hope sharing our experience helps improve how situations are handled for future guests.
This was our third visit to 1916, and we were already on the fence about coming back. The food is not great, the trivia is amateur, and the waitstaff are rude. If that is how you treat patrons, we will be taking our business elsewhere, and I recommend others...
Read moreTERRIBLE service. Forgot my burger then asked me to leave with small children instead of helping me when I asked for my order ETA and pointed out the fact that I didn't intend to starve myself. These people are stuck up morons. Worst service I've ever received hands down. Avoid.
Update: The outraged owner also takes zero responsibility for his staff forgetting to put in the order, which the entire bar could hear on account of clarifying multiple times I wanted fries with all three meals, which I tried to explain while asking for my ETA. You have to order at the bar and prepay, so I went thru slowly and placed the house burger for me as number three. I even mentioned the Swiss again to clarify before she told me my total. There was in fact zero attempt to remedy. I said I would order one then, even if they mistakenly forgot to send the ticket the first time. Not rocket science.
She said "no." So, I told her "I didn't come to sit and watch my family eat while I just fucking starve."
I would never intentionally pay $50 with a generous tip for two kids meals and a drink, nor to such lousy staff that cannot simply say, "oops, no, I only put in the kids meals, let's get that going." NO, we won't make your food was the response. I didn't curse out the staff by stating the obvious after being refused to have the correction in the first place.
Your business and your self are extremely lacking in the common sense and...
Read moreWe sat in the bar area and greeted quickly. We placed our drink order then looked over the appetizers that all sounded great. We settled on the loaded tater tots and an order of artichoke dip that were both quite yummy!!! For our orders three of us ordered burgers, one plain, and two Black and Bleu cheeseburgers, they were ah-ma-zing!!!!! My hubby got the fish and chips which he said were good. For our dessert, (we shared four ways) the chef, Trevor, made an Apple Galette; OMG, it was delicious! (You should seriously get that!!!) Warm apple tart-like dessert with a dollop of cold vanilla ice cream...forget your diet! I would highly recommend this bar and bistro! The only thing I had a problem with was the noise. It got quite loud and crowded. To make it worse for me, a speaker with loud music was placed nearly right over our table. LOL. I did need to remember it was a Saturday night in a pub and that's what happens. I guess I'm getting old. ...
