We've been to this location twice, and the staff were great both times. Shout out to Janna and Lindsey who were working during our 12/7 visit. They were friendly and helpful.
My spouse and I have done about fifty escape rooms and usually play as a pair.
Thieves' Guild: This room was a lot of fun. The set feels more homemade than slick and polished, but every inch is decorated giving a nice sense of immersion. It has a classic fantasy / medieval vibe. A strong narrative guides you through the puzzles, which for the most part are intuitive and fit in with the story and theme. I think this would be a good room for first time players because it flows well and everything makes sense, while still being fun for more experienced players.
Feb 2025 Update: Escape Time reached out to let me know that the Player One room has been updated, including addressing the points we found frustrating. We haven't played the new version, but props to Escape Time for making changes to improve the experience. (End update. Original review follows.)
Player One: The opposite of Thieves' Guild. I wouldn't recommend this room to anyone. We were excited to play it because it's the newest one at this location (I think it's only about a year old) and we like the sci-fi / superhero vibe but... ugh.
The good: the room was clean and well maintained. Nothing was broken. There were a few cool props.
The bad: everything else. The big fancy prop (which was sadly nothing more than a very expensive looking progress marker) wasn't enough to make this an interesting or immersive environment. The game description sounded awesome but none of that manifested in the disappointing gameplay. The puzzles felt random, unintuitive, and shoehorned into the theme. And this isn't a case of sour grapes: we escaped in ~35 minutes using two clues, one of which we only needed because a prop didn't trigger when it should have. If you do this room and find it challenging it isn't because the puzzles are hard in the "you need to be especially clever to figure it out" sense, they're just not very good puzzles. To add insult to injury, the placement of some of the props in the room is awful. If the goal was to make it as difficult as possible for more than one person to interact with or even look at them at a time, mission accomplished. Seriously, skip this room. Do Thieves' Guild instead. Or Ghost Ship. (We haven't played that room yet, but we figure it has to be better than this one was.)
tl;dr: Thieves' Guild: well designed and fun for players of any experience level. Player One (edited Feb 2025): We didn't enjoy the old version of this room, but it's gotten an...
Read moreThe room was cool but I highly recommend not going on a Friday or Saturday night. They only had one game master working resulting in getting absolutely no help with technical issues which ruined the game.
My family and I spent 30+ minutes trying to figure out something that we did right initially but the door didn’t open because it was broken. After the game was over, the game master tried to do it herself and she couldn’t either. She then apologized and said it was broken. The game master not once came over the intercom to help us through it,. We rang the bell 8+ times only to get a pre-canned clue, which does nothing when the fountain was broken and wouldn’t open the door.
I feel we should’ve at least got a voucher for a free play considering there was nothing we could’ve done to move forward we spent almost the whole game trying to figure out what we did wrong. The game master apologized and said it was too busy to notice we were stuck.
I’ve been to 20+ breakout rooms and this was the only one I left unhappy. I can’t believe we Iost an hour of our time and $100+ only to be frustrated the entire time. Very...
