I normally don't write reviews, probably because usually I don't care enough but for the Donut Shack I have to make an exception. The Donut Shack was a very special place here in Severna Park. Of course, there were the donuts. Freshly baked on site you could get them anytime you felt like it. Pregnant wife had a craving for donuts at 2am? Of to the Donut Shack I went. Breakfast for the office, treat for the kids, a thank you for the neighbors? I usually ended up getting dozens of donuts. But what made the Donut Shack so special were not only the consistently good donuts that you could get at any hour of the day but the feeling of the whole place. The vintage chairs and tables that haven't been updated since I have been here the first time many years ago. The way you get greeted by the employees because they know you. I have seen regulars walk in, take a seat and having a cup of coffee and donut brought to them within seconds without saying a word. The place was always spotless. The employees were always friendly and happy. I recognized a lot of high school kids from our local school getting their very first work experience. I even liked that they only took cash. It simply was a place with an old time feeling and that is why newspapers wrote about them and people kept coming back. But something has changed. As far as I heard the owner of over 30 years has retired and the Donut Shack has now a new management. I was hoping it would just stay the same but it doesn't look like it. A little over a week ago they ran out of donuts. When they have them they definitely don't taste like they used to and the selection is smaller. The employees are all new and well, very inexperienced. Someone needs to tell them that the tables need to be cleared of trash and wiped of. Why you would exchange your entire staff with new people all at once is beyond me. Severna Park has lost a very special place and I hope the original owner knows what his Donut Shack has meant to a lot of people. I wish I could...
Read moreIt is a JOY to see the Donut Shack of my youth restored to its glory. The new owners have made some wonderful updates. Online ordering and delivery are super easy and very convenient. I've never had an issue with the online system OR with getting my deliveries on time and packaged well with fresh donuts.
The service is great - all the staff are courteous and happy to help you. This is a great place for high school kids to work and learn customer service skills and experience the food industry. I've never once had a bad experience.
I honestly am not sure what other reviewers mean when they say the service and quality are poor - they must be thinking of the previous owners who owned Donut Shack for a short time after the original owners sold and before the current owners took over. Sometimes the donuts sell out - that's a fantastic thing! They're in high demand! Sometimes there are long-ish lines - another fantastic thing for our local businesses, especially in our current covid economy.
The current owners are so incredibly committed to making the Shack a success. I grew up coming here, and now it's a pleasure to take my children here and keep the...
Read moreBeen coming here my whole life (30 years) and this is NOT the Donut Shack I know. Weâve moved out of the area and the first time I came in after the owner change was terrible. Obviously gave them a second chance and it was better! I was optimistic! Third time today and itâs a strike out. The female staff member wasnât very welcoming, donuts not in stock, not a lot of variety at all, the place was empty and Iâm still upset about it not being 24 hours. The old shack had rows and rows of donuts in full bins covering the entire shelves plus extra donuts on racks in the back that you could see from the front at. all. times. Donut holes donât even look like how they used to. Everything is different and the donuts are way smaller. Quality has gone downhill. If youâre new to the Shack, you will like these donuts as they ARE tasty, but if you know the original, I would be shocked if you enjoyed them the same as the original owners. Is it just me or is anyone else trigged by the box design change?! I miss the people walking in and back out with...
