A great find in the Smokies! |April 24, 2024, my husband and I reserved the 19th Hole Tree House at Sanctuary in Sevierville TN and were not disappointed. As a matter of fact we liked it so much that while there, we extended our stay from 3 nights to 5 nights. We have been coming to the Smokies for over 30 years and have stayed in Chalets, cabins, etc., and I can truly say this is the most comfortable we have ever been with our accommodations. One reason is that the tree houses are still pretty new and they keep them very clean. I never saw one bug inside... and that means a lot to me! Off the beaten path, but close to everything you want to do. The only thing that could be a negative (but wasn't for us because we ate out the entire time), but just to let others know, the kitchenette has a microwave and a larger than most mini fridge (which was large noughts for everything we needed, plus left over plates from restaurants), but no cooktop or oven if you plan to cook while on vacation. Our time flew and we did so much that even if I had planned on cooking, I would not have had time. The Treehouses consist of one large room with everything laid out around the walls. I am still amazed at the concept and how well it works. It was large enough that never felt cramped and everything you need is incorporated very nicely into the space. The center of the floor is wide open to the back deck. Just a great space. |Other than the cleanliness, the tree houses are just adorable! |Each one is very unique and decorated beautifully. My favorite experience was sitting on the deck with my husband at night, enjoying the view of the city lights and mountains, while sitting in front of the beautiful fireplace (firewood and starter provided) while roasting marshmallows and making S'mores. |Amanda (one of the owners) was kind enough to show us several other tree houses while staying there, as we plan to return again in the future, but next time we're bringing our children and grandchildren. We think the "Tarzan and Jane" tree house will work great for that visit, and we know our grandchildren will absolutely love it. Tarzan and Jane are 2 Treehouses connected by a drawbridge and have 2- 20' dualing slides that I know they will love to race each other down in. The attention to detail and comfort in each of the tree houses is second to none. The amenities provided are many and were very much appreciated. Amanda went out of her way to do special things for us. You can tell the owners love what they do and love people. They truly go above and beyond. Don't miss any opportunity you have to grab one of these unique tree houses the next time you're planning a trip to the Smokies. You'll be glad you chose...

Read moreI think I would give this 3.5 stars. Although the place was nice and clean, I was a little disappointed to see that the homes were not really in the woods. It's more on a small hill in a residential neighborhood. They gave us a heads up about construction happening, but even so this was not the nature experience I was hoping for. You can see the mountains which is lovely, but also the golf course directly in front of that.
They advertise a lot of fancy accommodations which are accurate, but also not always the most practical. For example, the sink in the kitchenette looks fancy but is not really conducive to washing dishes. **I anticipated it being small, that's not the issue. The sink there is designed in such a way that you can't easily clean and rinse long stemware or larger items.
We stayed in the Honey Hole and the outside space was definitely lovely. There were privacy curtains, which I appreciated and it was a nice touch. The fireplace on the porch was also an added bonus and the deep bathtub was nice to use.
For the price though, I do not think I would return. I would probably try to find a log cabin with fewer 'fancy' amenities but actually in nature or with more space by the mountains. Or at least a place that didn't feel like I was in someone's backyard.
**I can see I activated a defensive response from the owners, which wasn't my intention. I get reviews matter to small businesses - which is why I gave it four stars... I'm not the only one?
I just wanted to offer some additional perspective. I want to point out that I literally used the word 'accurate' to describe many of their accommodations - just having experienced it now I'm simply expressing my opinion that it wasn't worth the cost to me. For others, maybe so.
As far as my nature comment - we stayed at the Honey Hole which was right next to the construction. It's not like the houses were more secluded - I could hear the workers talking while we were there. And once they are gone, will there be another home there or empty space? It won't be trees.. And I do think the first sentence on your website about being 'in' the Smoky Mountains is a bit misleading. It takes 45 minutes to get to the outer edge of the actual mountains.
I don't appreciate the assumption that I didn't do my research. I did. I have a special interest in non-traditional housing, actually. And I knew this wasn't a literal treehouse, etc. Not like Treehouse Point in Washington, which really are. Many of the accommodations were still really nice, just for me not worth thousands of dollar for a few nights. I think that's a...
