One if my favorite parks in Seymour - I bring my 22 month old here quite often during the warmer weather. It has everything that a typical park has... Playgrounds [1 for older children, 1 for the youngsters like mine], baseball field, large open flat grass area, trails & although the public restrooms are boarded up, the park does have portapotties. Extras that make this park truly one of a kind.... French Park isn't just a park... as you can read in the name - it's also is a memorial for veterans. From the moment you come through the main entrance, making your way up the parks lengthy driveway, monuments & statues along with stone structures instantly capture your attention. Continuing up the driveway is where yall will find where the true beauty lies. To the left, you have the most breathtaking views directly over route 8, seeing all of downtown Seymour & the valley as far as one could see. To the right is the perfect overlook of the e whole park. The driveway continues down the whole length of the park and sits at the highest point, along with one of the playgrounds, swings sets, and an upper parking lot. The terrain & landscape (and the view - all around 360) are the most unique aspects and why i personally recommend this park. Between the upper level and lower level- is a huge hill that begins with concrete bleachers built into the hillside... which creates a path for you to get from the upper level parking lot to the bottom where the fields are. To the left of the bleachers, the hill goes from super steep to less of an incline & widening. Trees break up the hill, allowing and providing sections for the perfect coverage and shade for spectators who want to get out of the sun since the hills provide the perfect view of the entire flat fields below. Park also has a full size tennis court and an actual dugout, along with the youngsters playground which could all be found on the lower level. This park is a MUST SEE next time you want a...
Read moreThis park was visited by myself and my elderly mother yesterday afternoon as part of looking over the neighborhood of where there is a house for sale that I am very much interested in on North St. The visit to the French Memorial Park was by far the highlight of that day, as from a historical standpoint there was much to see and take in. It was hugely refreshing to see such a veteran's park in such pristine condition, no vandalism, no litter, everything was clean and beautiful. The view from the benches by the flagpole overlooking Route 8 facing towards the west was very very good, and from a walking standpoint [*I did not know it was possible to park inside the park...] it's a very nice place for elderly folks to take a nice easy stroll, while there are plenty of areas for children to play, along with 2 courts for playing tennis at the north end. Highly recommended park, and not just for the memorials... the overall feel of this park is one of an area where the community truly cares and values such places, and I suspect will continue to do so for a long time to come. Should I be lucky enough to move into this area, which is where I would be retiring - I know I would be making daily walks here, because this park is just that beautiful, and I bet becomes truly spectacular as...
