This was the first time I have visited the Blue Gate Theatre. I really didn't know what to expect. Let me start by saying as we pulled into the parking lot to park, I was already impressed that there was ample parking and they DID NOT charge you to park. Most sports/theatre venues around Mishawaka and South Bend charge you to park. When entering the theatre it was very clean, plenty of staff to help you find your seat. The size of the theatre in my opinion, is perfect. Not too small and not too big. The theatre offers a variety of musical performs. You are sure to find one that fits your genre. The stage was big allowing for the performers if desired to work across the front of the entire stage. I had such a great time came home after concert, and booked my next trip to the Blue Gate, same seat I had for my first concert, it was such a good choice! Not a bad seat in the house though. The only negative thing I could say about the Blue Gate, is their allowance and encouragement of guests to storm the stage for dancing and jumping around. Therefore impeding the view of the patrons who paid for front row seats, that were trying to avoid the obstructed view. How I wish they could provide a different area for this. If not, then reconsider changing this policy. In all fairness they did make this fact known to me ahead of time on their website. Having never been in the theatre I was not aware how much that affected my view. Was disappointed with this aspect of...
Read moreI am very sad to report that at a recent concert I was assaulted, body-slammed and handcuffed by an overreacting security guard, causing injury to my shoulder, ribcage and leg, all for simply asking a tall person sitting in front of me to please sit down! After standing for an extended portion of the show, people were mostly sitting for a period, all except one very tall man and his tall friend, who happened to be directly in front of me two rows down. That person repeatedy ignored my requests until suddenly a big security guard came down my aisle and forcefully grabbed me, saying I had to leave. I had to leave? For asking someone to please sit down? Written company policy states that concert goers who won't sit down while others are sitting will be asked to move to another location where they will not obstruct others' view of the show. This was not what was done, unfortunately. Instead I was targeted for bothering someone! At this point I could see a polite request to move to another location perhaps, NOT violent removal from the venue! I have tried to contact management repeatedly to discuss this mistreatment but no one has returned my calls and messages. No one deserves to be body-slammed, handcuffed and removed from a concert for simply asking someone to please sit down! I expect an apology and also for that security guard to take responsibility for assaulting and injuring me in the process. I await a call.

Read moreAmish-style food. Visited Blue Gate on recommendations of some of the other guests at out B&B. It was the general consensus that Blue Gate was superior to Das Essenhaus, though the B&B owners indicated that choosing between the two is largely a matter of personal preference. The food at Blue Gate is simplistic. I will describe it as a combination of stereotypical Southern food and Thanksgiving dinner. County ham, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, dressing, and overcooked veggies. All the food was good, but none of it was spectacular. Salt is used in liberal proportions, though, surprisingly, the ham was one of the least salty of the items we tried and I found it to be quite flavorful. Fried chicken had great flavor, but the texture was a bit mushy and the skin was not at all crisp. The "roast beef" was more like pot roast, though not quite as flavorful and was probably my least favorite. Most of the side items (dressing, mashed potatoes, vegetables) were acceptable, but unexciting and nearly every vegetable we encounter was cooked to within inches of becoming baby food. Service appears to be hit or miss. Our server seemed over her head and inattentive, while other servers seemed like seasoned professionals. Guess it just depends on who you get. Coming from Chicago, I'll say prices are cheap for a large quantity of food and this restaurant does offer...
