I want to share a bit about my recent experience with Michael Duru Clothiers and how they earned my respect and trust. My girlfriend's daughter got engaged roughly 18 months ago. At some point thereafter, she asked me to do a reading in the Church. Given this honor, and that my girlfriend was the mother of the bride, I felt a tuxedo was a must. And I wanted to buy one, given this was just that special of a time. Now my dilemma; I am fashion challenged. I tried to do some research, but it was clear I had no idea on what to get, where to get it, how much to spend, etc. So, I went with the recommendations of the groom and his father. Michael Duru Clothiers. I initially called and spoke with Ismail Pehlivan. I explained my needs, and the most important thing, the window of time I needed to have a tuxedo ready. I had only one week until the wedding day. I know what you're thinking, and you're spot on, I was a tool to wait so long. And I fully understood this was a huge if not impossible ask of anyone in the fine clothing business. So, my girlfriend and I went to see Ismail and admittingly, I went in as a blank slate, I was open to guidance on everything around this experience, but still making sure everything presented to me made sense (I learned a lot that day, most importantly was how to tie a bowtie). Anyway, I met with Ismail, and we first picked out a tuxedo jacket and pants. I looked at a few but chose the one he initially showed me. He started off with the best that was readily available (given I had one week, to have a tuxedo custom made was not an option). The quality of the material alone was clearly high-end. Next up was the shirt. I wanted to use studs, and as no shirts that would accommodate studs were in stock, I had to have one custom made (even with the time constraint, it was completed within 5 days). We then moved to shoes. I looked at several pairs and went with a pair of Mezlan Lublin shoes. A formal slip-on shoe made of rich velvet. As I mentioned prior, I am fashion challenged. This shoe was about a million miles from what I would have chosen. But Ismail assured me it was the way to go. He was so right. They looked great when paired with my tuxedo. I was even whispered a compliment on them from a bridesmaid seated in front of me once I got back to the pew after doing my reading. The rest went smoothly, a belt, a bowtie, socks, cuff links and studs took just minutes. Picking everything out, the fittings and alteration measurements, and the back-and-forth friendly banter, all took less than 2 hours. The angst I had when going in was washed away. I left very happy, as if a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. On the day I had to pick everything up, I'll admit I was nervous. If something wasn't just right, an audible would have to be called. While I was assured all would be cool, I was still nervous. So, I put everything on, stepped out of the dressing room, and looked in the mirror. I could have went to an audition to be the next James Bond! Well, not as sadly no one is casting for a 63-year-old James Bond. So back to reality - in a word, the tuxedo, the whole look, once all put together, was "perfect". I could not have hoped for better. An all-inclusive Thank You to the Michael Duru Clothiers team, and a special Thank You to Ismail. I was in awe that this was all put together and accomplished in just one week. I will be a customer for life.
As a follow-up, weeks later I had a family Christening to attend and wanted a fresh look. I went right to Ismail, and he hooked me up with a awesome jacket, 2 shirts, really nice dress pants, and a pair of Magnanni Daniel shoes. A slick looking shoe that complimented the whole outfit. I've concluded that shoes to an outfit are like sharp looking rims and tires on a nice car. It completes the total picture into a very personalized look.
So, Ismail, I cannot thank you enough for all your time, diligence, and expert advice. You made a new friend.
Thanks again to the entire Michael Duru Clothiers Team,
