Terrace Park is absolutely lovely and unique among Sioux Falls parks, the best in my opinion. Don't miss the Japanese Gardens (with waterfall!), designed by renowned landscape architect, Professor Koichci Kawana of Japan. Local gardeners who support this project were trained by him to prune and manage the trees and plants to his design. He returns periodically to check on the Gardens. It is a very special, unique place, so beautiful that many people marry here. Photographers often do family photo shoots here, too. You must experience it! Other Terrace Park amenities include basketball and tennis courts, restrooms, playground equipment, picnic pavillions, and beautiful Covell Lake (you can fish from shore, feed the ducks, kayak, or just enjoy the view). The historic bandshell hosts free concerts every Sunday evening at 8 pm, beginning in May. Google Sioux Falls Parks and Rec for programs. But wait! There's a water park, too! 0° edge for kids, fountains and climbing features make a family-friendly entrance to the water. Diving boards, waterslide and fitness swimming areas are delineated. Terrace Park is the site of the Sioux Falls Pride festival every June. Thousands come to mark the tradition born of the fight to establish protection for the rights of all LGBTQI people. Entertainment, vendors, community resource people, local businesses all represent and celebrate. Free Mom Hugs! Historically, this area was the site of some violent clashes between the indigenous Sioux and white developers who worked to expand the village of Sioux Falls. This area was actively inhabited by many people before European interests were pressed forward. There is an historical marker that tells some of this story. It's good to know of and respect the original peoples. Many family and class reunions, weddings and other events are also held in Terrace Park. There are several large and lovely air bnb homes within a block or two. My favorites are the Becky and Micah Brunz properties. One has a two-story glass solarium with loft! But plan ahead-they fill quickly, especially for summer. Now come see what I mean by all these...
Read moreMy first experience at Terrace Park I had not too long moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota from Los Angeles, California, big change in life style. While looking at the J,,apanese Garden me and my son found a beautiful garden snake. The snake blended in with the rest of the garden. For a moment I didn't know what I was looking at. Five days ago I came upon another garden snake, this time I knew what to do. I jumped into the air as high as I could and made a B-Line straight to my car and didn't look back. This may seem strange but in Los Angeles the only place to see snakes was in the zoo. It was like the snake and I were running in a marathon trying to see who could get to Sunshine Market the fastest. Of course, I won. My reward was a...
Read moreI am letting my 12 year old daughter write this one:
I really like it! It has really good slides - a tube one a body one and 3 drop-off ones. My favorite is the drop-off slide because it is fun to go off the short slide and drop into the water as deep as I can!
This is a good pool also for babies and young kids. There is a nice big area for them, and they have slides for them too. My younger brothers like the animal things in this area to climb on and have fun on.
There is also a great area for playing volleyball - but I haven’t done this yet. And there is an area for people to rest on chairs - lots of chairs - well lounge chairs in the grass!
This is my favorite pool in...
