Jewel's Formals — Attraction in Smithfield

I went into this store after I had already looked online to see the dresses and prices. At this point I just wanted to try on dresses for my nieces quinceañera. When I walked in I just glanced and saw they had a small variety downstairs that was prom dresses. I wanted something a lil more formal and asked to go upstairs the lady that was helping me said “ oh those are more like pageant dresses that cost 1.2k+ you wouldn’t want to go up there “ then proceeded to walk me to a different place downstairs. She didn’t even ask me for my budget just assumed I didn’t want to spend or couldn’t spend that kind of money. So I found some downstairs that I wanted to try on but she honestly had a horrible attitude with me since I had came in. This was my first experience in a gown store but I was looking for a specific event and I didn’t have a budget so I was looking for anything I liked. But the attitude and attention I got was horrible. I’m a plus sized girl, so I didn’t have q lot of options and when I tried something on I didn’t really like the way it looked on me. When I asked to see another it kinda seemed like she was bothered. I even tried to make a lil joke because it was honestly so awkward at this point and complete silence. And I don’t want to say it has anything to do with race but when my sister came in ( we are both Hispanic ) you could see the lack of attention that she was willing to give us. When my sister tried on the dress and she didn’t really like the way it looked she told they lady this isn’t really how I imagined it and the lady helping us said “mmmm” and walked away. So it did kinda of seem like it had to do with race. Assuming I couldn’t afford 1.2k and then just the customer service we got....

The service we got today was unbelievable; the store hours are posted online & at the store for 6pm today. We got there at 5:50pm doors were locked. The owner came to the door, and said we are closed are you here to pick up ? I said no we are here to look. He said well we are closed. I said well it's 5:52pm now, and you don't close till 6pm and we drove AN HOUR!!! He so rude, and for this business to be family owned & operates it doesn't live up to it expectations. I even personally emailed Courtney Tieman all day today, and she had been expecting us to arrive late. She agreed to it. Online it also states appointments are made as well. This obviously didn't happen either. I can't even give this business a one star, but I have to in order to give a review. The store next to him was even rude came outside, and said we'll be sure to give me a review too YELLING as we walked off. What business treats any customer like this! Today was my first time at Jewels looking for a gown for my daughters sweet 15. I wanted something extravagant and elegant and was very excited to try a specific dress and although the dress didn’t fit as I was expecting. The girl helping me had the most bland non friendly customer service. I mentioned how the dress wasn’t what I was hoping and her response was “mmm”, now I know I’m plus size and possibly not many options but she didn’t offer to show me more dresses and or possibly order something. My whole experience was horrible, will never go back and I would not recommend this place at all. Customer service is very important and not judging a book by its cover is a ground rule.
