The oldest bar in Smithfield, the Little Brown Jug originally operated as a Pure Oil Station in the 1950's, it was a place where you could get your car serviced and a grab a beer in the back room. This awesome staple of Smithfield has been serving its community in more ways than one for a long time and is very popular with the locals, but you don't have to be a local to feel the love the owners have put into this place. You can't help but relax in this cozy and chill environment! Regardless of whether your sitting outside on the large patio or inside the bar, there is not an uncomfortable chair in the house. As far as I am concerned you wont find a colder beer anywhere, and you certainly won't find a better assortment of beer in any bar within 20 miles. Total Wine or Wegman's doesn't count. This is a great little bar owned by a couple of great owners, Smithfield is lucky to have it. Cheers!

I’ve always driven past this older cute building on the river but never went in. Happy we did try it. The staff was so sweet. Comfy bar with an older crowd. Out back they have seating outside. Bottles only. Great prices.

One of the best places to come to in Johnston County. Coldest beer, best pizza and amazing staff and owners! You won’t find a friendlier place to come to.

My friends and I have always loved this place but management really needs to reconsider who they have working behind the bar, especially in a (southern) home town bar where hospitality is expected. A few friends and I decided to have a drink one evening and no one was in the bar at the time so we thought it would be nice to hangout for a moment and chit chat. According to Heather, who was working this particular evening, 23 year olds can not buy a drink, matter of fact, she said it was a ALE law. Not only did she not greet us upon entrance, after I had tried to make conversation about the night being slow and made the whole vibe feel awkward, she then refuses us a drink. She stated that she could and would NOT sell a drink to my friend because her ID was vertical and not horizontal. Keep in mind this ID is valid, not expired and has clear viability of the birthdate. I proceed to show Heather both of my cards, one which is horizontal and one which is vertical (neither are " REAL-ID" that does not come into effect until 2023), both current, in date, and both me. So I was approved alcohol with the same ID that my friend was denied with, makes sense. In turn she is very rude back to me and disrespectful, continually stating that she cannot sell the alcohol because of ALE laws. You would think it being a slow night she would enjoy some company or at least maybe a tip...my friends and I have heard many others complain about this worker in the past. My friends and I left and will be sure to never return if Heather is working the bar. (I also looked up the ALE laws and spoke to law enforcement on the matter. It is in...

My first visit! It was nice. It is a little small, but welcoming with a digital jukebox. It has an outdoor patio I am looking forward to sitting on maybe my next visit that looks over the water. You can see a lighted path down below. He let me sample a few wines to pick one I liked, and that was a big help. I wouldn't hesitate to tell others about our visit here and to come back again. It was pleasant and we enjoyed it. **just realized the review didn't post when originally done. Sorry. We have been back since and the staff is still as friendly as ever. It was a...
