"This unit was beautiful. Lots of amenities as far as the kitchen utensils, bag chairs, etc. Honestly the place was amazing! Our Airbnb cancelled on us 8 days before our trip and the saying "everything happens for a reason" in this case was so true.
We woke up and walked to the living room for the most amazing sunrises you'll see on the island. The unit is between the two pools. The upper pool is heated and has a HUGE hot tub and small wading pool. The front pool is not heated, but is also less used which was great for poolside hanging out with our group of six. There were limited chairs at this pool but definitely not the fault of our unit owner.
You had a short walk to a beautiful covered path to the beach that we walked daily. The condo location was in a great spot at the south end of the island closer to the bridge. Once inside the complex you couldn't hear the road noise at all.
The only sort of downfall about the unit itself was that two of the bedrooms had great beds. The third room with the two regular sized beds, neither were comfortable. I hate to even mention as truly the unit is so absolutely gorgeous and well taken care of but it is something to consider as we were there for 8 days.
The entire complex was clean and very well maintained. There was a decent size exercise room and sauna we had access to as well. There were six adult family members in our unit and we had family stop in to see it and we were never crowded. The deck with seating for at least 6 and an electric grill was awesome. We spent a lot of time out there. All in all it truly was way better than we would have had and an incredible vacation. Thank you!!
On an side note and to hopefully help future renters I'd say use the SPI Rentals directly over Airbnb or VRBO fees are much lower. That being said, I'd also mention the check-in (again NOT the fault of the unit owner) was at best difficult. It was evening after a long day of travel, We were tired and frustrated in finding our unit as the instructions were terrible and there is virtually NO signage once on the property. From turning into the parking lot (horrible signage there), to finding our unit took over an hour. The Sunchase Beachfront unit is part of a complex. It was originally intended to all be owned together, however they went bankrupt and it became three properties. The hotel is out by the street and called Suites by Sunchase, the center horseshoe shaped complex is the Sunchase IV and the units closest to the beach, also horseshoe shaped, and are called Sunchase Beachfront. SPI gave us a map of a horseshoe shaped complex without explaining to us there were two of these complexes inside the gate that were shaped like this. They also had us sign in off property and then we had to check-in again once we got through the gates, which also had no explanation in how to get in and no lights in near or around the small typed instructions on the gate opener. We then went to three offices on the grounds once inside the gates. There are no signs telling you which desk to sign in at for your specific complex/unit or which way to go to get to which units once inside the gates. Even out of the car you literally had to shine a light on the doors to check unit numbers. We finally ran into someone who explained where the office was, but we had to call someone to meet us there. So, SPI Rentals would do well to put together better check-in instructions for new renters. Again, I'm just trying to explain the check-in and this is NOT a reflection on our unit owner.
Bottom line, this unit gave us some new incredible family memories. Thank you so much!" We so hope to come back...
Read moreThis has been HORRIBLE!!!! This whole situation with this SPI rental was awful. Due to the pandemic our family was forced to make a very hard decision not to take our summer family vacation to South Padre Island. We rented a house for over $4000.00 months ago to accommodate several families with their children & grandchildren. We were celebrating a gender reveal & a baby shower all in 1 week. Of course this reservation was made before the pandemic got so intense. Who would have imagined we would be in the place we are now with COVID-19. Our family has been faced with exposure to COVID-19 which can be verified through medical records. We have family that has been positive for COVID-19 which also can be verified through medical records. We have family that would have been traveling from documented nation hot spots forcing them into mandatory 14 day quarantine upon arrival & return. This would be financially impossible after spending a week on vacation to then be off an additional amount of time. We reached out to SPI Rentals on multiple different occasions with disappointment. Calls unanswered. Calls not returned. We emailed with delayed responses. When we finally did have a short conversation with staff from SPI we were told that SPI Rentals was not offering refunds & that they were still open for regular business despite the pandemic. They were actually encouraging us to still come anyway. I asked the lady on the other end of the phone how she even expected us to be that selfish to come infest a rental property & put others at risk? They still refused & denied our request for a refund. I even asked her if she was aware that Air B&B was encouraging guest to cancel reservations. Her heartless response was that was a personal choice. I then after conversing with my other family members decided that I would accept defeat from this HORRIBLE company & again reached out to them to try & rebook the property for different dates in the far future. They were still not willing to come to an agreement with us. They told me that we would need to add additional days & an additional $2500+. They are nothing but greedy people who don’t care about the health and safety of their guest. They just want your money. They say they are speaking on behalf of the owners of the house? Read moreThe condos listed are nice and semi well represented by the photos. The problem(s) are with SPI Rentals. I can not stress my incredible disappointment with this company. If you expect any kind of basic customer service, communication, or accountability do not make reservations with SPI Rentals. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the company’s inability to fulfill your booking 48 hours prior to your arrival, you’ll be taken care of by a front desk person, not management. Front desk personnel is very kind and accommodate you to the best of their ability. When you explain to front desk personnel that members of your party are disabled and seniors, personnel will assure you that your last minute accommodations (which they dropped the ball on) include a functioning elevator. Only to arrive and find out within less than 24 hours that the only elevator in your second choice of condominiums is being torn out and repairs will continue for the week. You only discover this from RIO ELEVATOR REPAIR person in the parking lot. There was no notice of repair anywhere in the building and SPI RENTALS did not notify you and also seemed unaware and dismissive of the fact. After making multiple phone calls and unable to speak with management (yes I immediately requested management as to not subject front desk personal to duties or objectives that they should not be held accountable for) I still have not had a return phone call from management. When presented with the third condo, I took it upon myself to view it. It was vacant of guest at 10:30 am but not available for check in until 4pm, after reaching out on my part to SPI RENTALS. At no point did they reach out to our family to notify us of when the condo would be ready. I feel that SPI RENTALS is negligent of the American Disabilities Act, dismissive of seniors, the handicapped. lacks any sense of urgency, has zero capabilities in communication and is untrustworthy.
