Very disappointing. Dirty and smelly.
Poor service, too. Got misleading info about the pool from desk staff, twice!
No free internet. Slow WIFI costs $3. Not bad if it worked, but it does not function well; we found it unusable. Don't pay for their internet service. Better yet, don't stay here.
Not at all what I expected from Motel 6. :(
The hotel staff relly need to make changes. Whatever it takes to keep this motel (all its rooms, not just some of the rooms) clean and pest-free, even during the off season. Motel Guests still deserve to have a comfortable stay and a clean roach-free room, even when it is not Spring Break on South Padre.
The Motel 6 room we stayed in had a floor that was not just dirty, it was quite filthy. There was a small amount of stale, smelly urine at the base of the bathroom toilet. Also, much of the bathroom floor, and over half of the floor near the room's sink, were covered in grey grime and black grime. Possibly mildew combined with dirt. This unit's bathroom floor and sink-area floor both looked like these 2 areas of floor had not been cleaned in months!
One of the motel guests in a room very near ours complained of roaches in his room. Yuck!
If I had known my room would be this disgustingly dirty, and so close to a roach-infested room, I would have saved money and instead chosen to stay in a no-name, flophouse, aka "roach motel."
This is the first reason why I am not happy with the value I got for my money. In fact, I would like a refund of the money paid, because I did not get the kind of stay that a Motel 6 is known for providing.
The customer service at this motel 6 location was bad too, because of misleading pool information we got from the front desk clerk when we checked in, and then more misleading information that we got from the same front desk clerk when we asked why the pool was late to be opened.
There was a sign on the motel's swimming pool saying the pool would be open, starting at 9:30 AM. When we checked in, we asked the check-in desk clerk if the motel had a pool, and we were told by the clerk that yes, the motel had a pool.
Later the next morning at 9:30 AM we wanted to use the pool. The pool was still closed at 9:30 am, but the sign said it was supposed to be open. So we went to the service desk to ask why. We were told the pool was closed, but would open at 10 AM.
At 10:45 AM, the pool was still closed. We wanted to get into the pool, but upon further inspection, the pool was filthy with leaves, twigs, debris, and had a pool chair immersed in it. My husband, who knows about care of pools and spas, checked the pool water & found it contained diatomaceous earth (an irrritating pool-care substance, which makes the pool unusable).
This was very disappointing. We could not use the pool during our stay, but the pool was one of the amenities we had specifically paid for, and asked for. I feel we were unfairly misled by the front desk clerk about the pool, twice. He was not entirely honest with us about the pool. If we had known the Motel 6 pool was to be unusable during our stay, we would have chosen a cheaper motel, with no pool, to save our money.
If the motel 6 is not going to have a usable pool, then the check-in clerk should NOT tell guests about to check in that "yes, we have a pool." And if the pool is going to be closed all day, then the clerk should NOT tell guests that it will open at 10 AM.
The front desk clerk should instead have told us the truth, in both situations, which was "The pool will be out of service during your stay. It's closed for a cleaning & contains diatomaceous earth, an irritant that makes it not available for swimming today or tomorrow."
This is the second reason why I am not happy with the value I got for my money. In fact, I would like a refund of the money paid, because I did not get the kind of stay that a Motel 6 is known for providing.
Thanks for being open to feedback, and I look forward to hearing about my refund.

Read moreWe were out of our room from 10 am until afternoon then again from 2PM until nighttime. The room was never made up. I went to the desk and they told me that the maid had tried but that the deadbolt was thrown and they worked until 5 pm. I asked it the maid had knocked. The answer was no. I asked if she had returned later. The answer was no. The next day we were absent from 9am until 3:30. Our room had again not been serviced. I went to the desk and the manager directed the staff to do the job and it was completed within 30 minutes. I did not want to take the chance that they would not get around to it in the last moments of the workday. The room literally stank when we first entered. I assumed that it had been closed for a long time and just needed to be aired. After a day the smell had reduced considerably. After we finally got our second and last maid service the smell returned. A different cleanser should be considered.
The room contained no listings of the TV channels. The desk was called and the wrong information concerning channel offerings were given to us. How much of an extravagance would a laminated card be? While card making a card to hang on the door asking for maid service might help your problem.
When the desk was asked about WIFI we were informed that it was available at an additional charge. That in itself is odd since it can be had almost anywhere for free. It turns out it doesn't matter since we had a first floor room we were told that the reception there wasn't sufficient anyway.
It was difficult to complete a shower with the available hot water.
We had to return to the front desk to have our door keys re-scanned because they no longer worked. It was explained that they "timed out" We had paid for three nights and don't understand why they timed out before we were...
Read moreI recently stayed at Ocean Inn and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. When we first checked in, the room they gave us had a broken AC. I had an elderly family member with me who gets overheated very quickly, so this was a serious issue. I went to the front desk within five minutes of checking in and asked to be moved. They did give us another room upstairs, but then mentioned we might be charged a $20 cleaning fee just for using the restroom in the first room even though the AC issue wasn’t our fault. That felt very unfair.
The second room was slightly better in terms of temperature, but absolutely not worth the $300 we paid for two nights. The towels felt dirty and cheap, like they’d been washed with low-quality detergent. The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable, and the blankets were so thin it was like sleeping without one at all.
Outside the room, the property looked neglected. There were huge potholes right in front of our parking spot, and empty detergent boxes stacked near the AC units, which looked like they were leaking very unprofessional and unsightly.
We used to stay here back when it was Motel 6 and never had these problems. Now that it’s Ocean Inn, things have definitely gone downhill. It’s clear that the place needs major renovations and better management. Unless you’re in desperate need of a place to stay, I don’t recommend this hotel. The only positive thing I can say is that I didn’t see any roaches and the lady in the front office was nice.
Very disappointed overall and won’t...
