Artshak Studio and Gallery — Attraction in Southport

We love this place! We drive out of our way to go here---every year on the way back home from our beach vacation. We always find something to puchase---either as gifts for others or gifts for ourselves. They always have unique items from paintings and sculptures to pottery and lamps. All price ranges for work by substantially talented artists. And the couple that run this place are friendly, kind, amazing people. They actually remember my elementry-aged daughter from year to year and spend time with her to encourage her drawing skills. Also, the husband does fabulous and impressive metal work. This little art oasis is a hidden gem! The art is eclectic (not just ocean and beach themed) highlighting local artists’ work including the owners’ own unique metalwork, pottery and painting. There is a smattering of everything in this small, but well-appointed and creatively laid out celebration of art: paintings (a variety of media), sculpture, pottery, jewelry, note cards...! The owners are over-the-top friendly and quick to answer questions about the artists, their techniques, etc. While the space is limited, I spent a large portion of a rainy day perusing every nook and cranny making for a lovely afternoon! Great people with literally something for everyone. Creative glasswork, jewelry, watercolors and more for under $100 all the way up to wild metalwork and higher cost complicated oil paintings.

What I really love about these folks is their welcoming attitude. They want you to learn everything about the artists and styles represented in their gallery. This is not a quiet place! Lots of good conversations here.
