We were so lucky to book a cottage here for the first week of July! While a lovely, peaceful, tucked away spot, it was only a short walk to the shops/restaurants in Southwest Harbor; a short drive to the grocery store, mini golf, hiking trails, and swimming/kayaking on the quiet side of MDI; and a 25-30 min drive to Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Park Loop Road and other destinations on the busier side of Mt Desert Island.
Beyond the great location, the cottage itself was very clean and comfortable with ample space for cooking and relaxing inside, out on the deck, and by the fire pit/lawn. Flower planters along the lane were a nice touch. The cottage was as pictured with an adequately stocked kitchen and comfy bed/linens. If I had to nitpick, the rooms had bright overhead lights, and dimmers or floor/table lamps would have been nice for cozier reading in the evening.
The owners had useful books and maps, plus games in the office. The information binder in the cottage had descriptions of nearby restaurants. Upon check in, Laurie also noted a new coffee shop just down the road. Taking her suggestion, we enjoyed delicious breakfast at Vacationland Coffee.

Read moreMy wife and I celebrated our 40th anniversary recently with our visit to Maine and specifically Acadia National Park. We wanted this celebration to be quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of tourist traps, and fortunately the internet brought us to Acadia Cottages.|They were fairly booked for a midweek September visit, but luckily there was one small studio cottage that was available and we jumped on it.|When we arrived, Laurie could not have been more gracious, telling us all about the cottage, her family, their purchase of the business, as well as local places to eat and visit.|We were in cottage 11, which is a studio at the very far end of the property, kind of buried in the woods, exactly what we were looking for. The cottage was quaint, extremely clean, and the perfect distraction from the touristy Bar Harbor hotels and inns.|We particularly enjoyed being in Southwest Harbor, visiting the local restaurants, spending the days in Acadia National Park, and then eventually returning to our little haven in the woods.|If you are looking for the perfect non-touristy escape in the woods, I strongly suggest you give Acadia Cottages a try.    Read moreMy wife and I rented a small cottage at Acadia Cottages for 10 nights from late May into early June. We had a wonderful time! First, we liked being in Southwest Harbor, ME. It was quiet compared to the northeast side and Bar Harbor. This is what we wanted. The cottages are spaced apart. All cottages have decks - we used ours for reading. There are lots of trees so little direct sunlight except in the common area. The owners and our hosts, John and Laurie, were friendly and quite accomodating. In the evenings around 7pm, John had a fire going in the common area where guests could sit in lounge chairs, relax, and visit. Our cottage (#9) was a one-room with a bathroom. Even though small, it was very well organized. The small kitchen had a refrigerator, sink, and 2-burner flat top grill. No stove. No microwave. It wasn't a problem with us. All utensils, pots, pans, and coffee maker were there to use. There are some larger 2 room cottages that are available. All cottages have cable TV and wifi. There is an IGA store about 1.5 miles down the road to get groceries. There is a laundromat next to the IGA store. We highly recommend...
