Deke Slayton Memorial Space and Bike Museum — Attraction in Sparta

Fun little museum! Just $5 for adults. I must admit we weren't sure what to make of a space and bicycle museum, but it was a good time. Deke Slayton did some pretty amazing things in the early astronaut program (including going to space!) and clearly had a large influence on how it developed. I didn't know anything about him before and learned much about his life. The bicycle history was also interesting in its own right. So many old bikes from different eras restored to great condition. Interesting displays including old toys, detailed doll house, and a great model train display with depiction of Sparta. The museum on the 1st floor is free and there is also a second floor for the bike and space part of the museum which has a cost of $4 - $5. Great displays of bikes and air craft. FANTASTIC small-town museum! The layout is AMAZING, the quality of the materials is INSANE, and the atmosphere is beautiful. The bicycles are set up in a wonderful way for the space, absolutely the best way to do it in a historical building. I was just so impressed.
