North 40 Outfitters — Attraction in Spokane

Two weeks ago, I visited the firearms department to find and buy a rifle. I completed the online background check and paid the $18 WA fee. The rifle was set aside for me. The staff then were courteous and helpful.

Yesterday, I received a phone call telling me that 10 business days had passed and I could come pay for and pick up the rifle. I told them I would be there tomorrow.

Today, I went there, arriving at their counter at 11:15 a.m. (I always check my watch especially when I have other things on my schedule). At first, there was one person behind the counter helping two other customers with some sort of purchase (not firearms) requiring a computer screen. That person glanced at me waiting but never offered, "Someone will be with you soon."

I was the only other person waiting until another customer came and another store employee immediately went to him rather than asking, "Who's next?"

The first employee finally finished and walked the counter to near me but still seemed to be not interested in helping. The second employee then asked if I was being helped. I said I was there to pick up my rifle. He took my driver's license and went into the back room. When he exited, he asked the first employee to help with that (I believe number two was in training). That person, with the rifle box, said virtually nothing to me, sat down at another computer and began completing some sort of form (no explanation), then had me come to a terminal to verify there was no change in my information in the past two weeks and sign that screen (which showed very little info to verify). That employee than went into the backroom. It took quite a while for both to come out .

They were NOT customer friendly, just exceptionally quiet and passively doing whatever it was they had to do. I was there for 45 minutes (again checking my watch), and when I asked why it was taking so long, the second employee's response was, "We have to check everything." (Remember that.) I mentioned that I had already been there for 45 minutes and that second employee had the gall to say, "It's only been 15 minutes." Probably seemed like it if you were asleep.

Then, the first employee took the rifle in the box and walked me to the front desk to pay what I owed, which I did. That employee then was to walk me out the front door before handing over the box. THIS was where I stated, "I probably should see inside the box to make sure that is the rifle I purchased." That was intentional on my part. AT NO TIME did anyone in the firearms department open the box to show me the rifle and ask if this was the correct one, but they took 45 minutes to verify paperwork!

It's a nice store but I probably won't make...
